Tranmere Rovers Football Club have said that a shocking video posted by one of their players showing a man apparently lunging into another person with a two-footed 'tackle' was "horseplay" among friends.

Footballer Jonathan Margetts, who is currently on loan at Stockport County, uploaded the video to his Facebook page with a number of smiley faces and described it as a "cracker".

The video shows a man walking down a rainy Lord Street in Liverpool when another man runs towards him and slides in with two feet, sending his unwitting victim crashing to the ground, dropping the drink he is carrying.

According to the Liverpool Echo , he lies dazed on the floor as an outbreak of laughter is picked up by the camera as someone shouts: “Two foot challenge”.

Margetts posted on Facebook: "No names mentioned but a mate of mine thought it was funny to 2 foot a randomer last night...cracker."

Accompanying his text are 18 smiley emojis.

It was claimed Margetts said the tackle was on a random person, but fellow footballer Brad Grayson later took to Twitter to say he was the man who was tackled and the incident was simply a laugh between friends and the football club's statement now backs this up.

Margetts, a former Hull City youth graduate, joined Tranmere Rovers in the summer after impressing in pre-season.

After a friend noted that the video has received 20,000 views, Margetts replied that it was “madddd”.

A spokesman for Tranmere Rovers said: "We have looked into the matter internally and have been assured that the incident was horseplay between a group of friends, and not an attack on a stranger as it has been portrayed.

"The "victim" has confirmed this publicly. As a result no action will be taken, although players will be reminded of the need for great caution in social media use, because of the risk of things being misinterpreted."

    Pah, that's nowt special Chazz.

My friend Billy had a ten foot member.

Until that unfortunate incident with his neighbour and her garden rake.

Poor lad is a complete ophidiophobe now.

In fact he's almost half the man he used to be.

Sounds a knob like a lot of "kids" these days! Although that's probably what people said about me when I was younger? Just couldn't say it on the Internet back then!
