His views might be offensive. But, as Gaby Logan said, he wasn't on the list for his views. The man is undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. And he did apologise for any offense he caused. I very much doubt he's a mysogynist by the way. Gypsy women don't tend to be shrinking violets, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find his wife is the boss in their home. And the homophobia, whilst equally objectionable, is down to ignorance. He's not an educated man hence the tendency to say stupid things.
I think he has learned a great deal from this experience and has had to stop and reflect on his views. The correct thing to do is not to suppress opinion that is the communist/fascist way but to change opinion through debate, discussion and experience. As for universities restricting debate that goes against the very principle and function of a university. They are meant to produce autonomous free thinking individuals not people who become as bigoted and prejudiced as the people they seek to silence.
That would be more funny if it wasn't so frighteningly close to the truth. I'm scared for the future when students (who should be mild subversives) sound like something from the thought bureau.
Will be intresting to see hwo they do it - Channel 4 have confirmed there will be no adverts during the race, which is good
