Hill restricted the amount of gates the Bristol supporters could get through as has been stated by their supporters. They said they arrived in good time and, let's face it, they would as it was such a vital game. He persuaded the police to delay the game knowing that a draw would save both teams. Once the Sunderland game was over he had the score flashed up and appeared on the touchline to shout instructions to the players. In my opinion it had all been spoken about before the game. If you think Hill was honest and you wouldn't be aggrieved, if it was Man Utd who went down, then fair enough.
What Chinny done completely overrides it 'being our own fault'. We were robbed of fair play by that cheating ****. If this game had of played out fairly and they had been a winner, then over the course of 46 games, we would have done enough to deserve to stay in the league. We never got that chance though.
Oh no mate I'm not fighting his corner at all, I get why you all think he was a ****, I'm just trying to look at the whole picture objectively. I think hating him for what he did is perfectly acceptable and I'm glad you lot have had the last (or most recent) laugh with Coventry now in League 1, I'm just saying that he's guilty of being a ****er but your players are guilty of taking you down, they didn't do enough to stay up and relinquished their own fate. Like Kinky says I wasn't alive at the time so I don't have memories of it myself, so my knowledge on the whole thing is a bit slim. All I do know by applying logic is you must have failed to get enough points to avoid this sort of thing happening. Out of interest, do you think he had a plan B if you guys won, to screw Bristol?
But we'll never know because of that cheating ****, maybe if the game had played out fairly, we may have already had enough points to stay up. You aren't looking at it from that perspective mate.
And that's why your players are to blame, leaving the fate of your club in the hands of a big-chinned, corrupt, ****er.
I'm always gunna disagree with you on this, matey. At the end of the day, if they had have played the game out fairly and they'd been a result then our players had done enough over the previous 45 games to stay up.
i used to love watching the Jimmy Hill show at the seaside when I was a kid. I particularly liked the bit where the crocodile stole the sausages
But if your players won you'd have stayed up. The point I'm making is you gave him the opportunity to do what he did.
And the point I'm making is if the game had of played out fairly and they'd been a result, then our result wouldn't have mattered. By your own admission the other 45 games need to be took into consideration, not just that last game. Regardless of how tight it would have been, we would have deserved to stay up because of the points we had acquired over the course of the season. We were never afforded that opportunity of the season playing out fairly and that's what narks. If it played out fairly and the result was the same, then it would have been our players fault. If it had of played out fairly and they was a result, then our players had done enough to deservedly stay up. We'll never know. Saying it's the players fault is as much guesswork as us blaming them two teams when the game might well have finished a draw anyways.
Not really. You left yourselves in that position, by not winning enough games to avoid being placed in the hands of corruption in the first place. If Newcastle got beat last game of last season and we rolled over for Hull and Hull stayed up, Newcastle can't just blame us, they had 37 other games to win. They dealt with their own fate, our result never mattered in the end.
We don't disagree that he's a ****, just to clarify, again, I get what he did justifies your hatred collectively. That's out of order.
Look, for all the ****ing pansies I'll say it. **** him, I'm glad he's croaked. Nowt else to say really.
How can it be the Sunderland players fault? They could have done just enough to stay in the league we'll never know because of what happened with the Coventry game. Hill resorted to dirty tactics so there's no way of knowing what would have happened if the game had played out fairly on time. That's not the fault of the Sunderland players as we may have amassed enough points anyway.
Yes mate, we know all that .......... it's been discussed for decades, you're saying nothing new. The fact remains that Hill cheated, don't pretend you'll feel any different if it was your club. I was in a pub at Chelsea when I heard Hill had died. The photo below was my response. These feelings run deeper than you can imagine. I was at Everton, that night, and I'd boo a minute's silence ........ in fact I'd boo at his funeral. please log in to view this image
