"They wear outfits similler to volleyball, emphasising their femininity"

In some of those women's cases, this isn't true.

Wasn't the costumes as such (as said nothing like the American version), but the idea of it. Is there room for 2 women's leagues?

Very sad news. The voice and face of football for decades. Alzheimer's is such a horrible way to go as well.

    RIP Jimmy <rose>

Indeed. The best things in football wouldn't be there today if not for him.

Having binge watched my way through it, while I have a bad cold, I have to say that The Man in the High Castle [freely adapted 1962 novel by Philip K. Dick] has been gripping stuff. For those with not a clue, it's about an alternative world where the WWII Axis Powers won, and the plot is largely centred around a USA which is divided into 3 parts. The East Coast ruled by the Greater German Reich, a Neutral Zone [wish they'd called it Area, so that I didn't keep thinking of ST Romulans and Klingons every time it was mentioned] covering the Rocky Mountain chain and lowlands, where renegade factions hide out, and finally the Pacific West States of America, ruled by the Japanese Empire.

Here's a map of this alternative world: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_in_the_High_Castle#/media/File:Man_in_the_High_Castle_Dick.png

The totalitarian society is remarkably authentic and the pervading sense of doom can almost be compared to Alone in Berlin, by Hans Fallada. The acting is generally of high calibre, Rufus Sewell, as a leading Nazi SS officer John Smith [yes, that's really his name] coming out above everyone else, in my opinion, although Rupert Evans, as Frank Frink, pushes him close for the sheer terror he manages to convey at times.

    Here's the official trailer:

Trivia: A German SST clearly based on Concorde and the theme song which opens every episode - a rather eerie arrangement of Edelweiss [remember The Sound of Music.?].

Update: The pilot episode, broadcast earlier in the year, is actually up on Youtube. Catch it while it's still cold:

Just about the best series Amazon have commissioned - I loved every minute of it. And yes, Rufus Sewell as the SS Obergruppenfuhrer was chillingly good. The whole thing about him living in a perfectly normal Long Island middle class suburb wearing a black SS uniform, and his neighbours waving to him and passing jokey remarks was pure Philip K. Dick at his best, and full credit to the directors for bringing out the irony. Alexa Davalos as the heroine Juliana Crain deserves a mention too, as does the excellent Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who plays the pacifist Japanese Trade Minister. More like that please, Amazon.

Superb, wasn't it? I'm taking more advice on books, TV and films from this forum. So far I've seen this, the Detectorists and read "Fatherland" and thoroughly enjoyed them all. Well done, folks!! :emoticon-0100-smile

Thanks TSS. Did someone say this is based on Dominion? I mentioned that to the wife and it has appeared listed in my Amazon account so I think Santa may be getting it for me :)

I'll watch this pilot tonight. Thanks

I recommended Dominion, it's a similar scenario to Fatherland and The Man In The High Castle, but based in England a few years after Germany wins World War II.
