Okay, but would he give more impact then say Juanmi of the bench or Ward-prowse when starting, I would back Ramirez

Tom, I don't think you are wrong for creating this thread. It is a forum after all and after disappointing performances and results recently we can ask the question to see what we all think.

I hope however that in most people's minds he should be given plenty more time. After last season's team building and incredible record and performances he is clearly a very capable premier league manager. Pretty much everything went better than expected for him.

The test of a good manager in any walk of life is how they deal and respond to adversity and Ron should be given that chance to turn things back around.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is perfect, I have questioned some of the signings and tactical changes. For me, my biggest disappointment is the lack of chances being given to youngsters, I thought he was well known for bringing through youth before he started here but on the contrary this area has seemed to have stalled.

Ron wants success for saints and I want success for him. Let's be careful what we wish for and continue our support to everyone connected to the club.

Right now, I would have Gaston on the bench ahead of Juanmi every day of the week. I can't disagree with that. Indeed, I've been asking for it for weeks.

Top post. This forum as awash with people telling other people what they can and can't post recently. Everyone should be entitled the chance to ask questions without getting shouted down.

Ron has at around ten games for me before we need to start thinking about replacing him.

Even if it means getting relegated? I'm not saying that will happen but if he fails to turn things round in the next month or two he has to be sacked IMO. I would love him to prove my doubts wrong but I just can't see where our next win is coming from at the moment.

I've asked a perfectly legitimate question. Ron hasn't done anything particularly special in 12 months. We started last season in spectacular fashion than had a mediocre 2nd half. We've been very inconsistent this season and we've blown 2 big cup games as well. His tactics leave a lot to be desired at times as well.

Genuine Q - what would you do tactically differently? As in the set up/formation with the players we have in the parts you can influence initially (I don't mean subs) - the bit before they cross the white line and the responsibility passes to them?

Well against Liverpool and United we suddenly stopped attacking down the flank that we were getting joy from. Either Koeman told them to do that or he didn't notice. Either way poor. Also his subs against United lost us the game IMO. And why he picked Caulker against Liverpool over Yoshida was ludicrous.

Agreed on the first point. Not talking about subs so much, and Caulker over Yoshida - well I don't recall (I may be wrong but I can't be arsed to check) too many dissenting voices prior to the game about the choice - more a 'chance to see what he can do'. Well, we did, and he was ****!

Not saying at all that RK is beyond criticism, far from it. Just interesting to see the differences of opinion on what and how things need to change. Sometimes a steadfast belief in your decisions can be a good thing. As can flexibility.

I've no clue what the right answer is, I do have suggestions based on little more than supposition. Ron's certainly armed with more information, and he's not a daft man.

I'm confident he'll sort things out relatively soon, and if he does, he should be praised. A lot. I'm sure the eventual thing that turns the corner will have been something that one of us has suggested, and will be immediately jumped upon and clamoured with "well I did say that, it was obvious, he should have done it earlier".

The reality is that real life situations, and management situations are rarely that simple when you're inside them.

Thanks Vin - that's the thing I was referring Tintin to earlier. It just doesn't make too much sense in the conditions as far as we're aware of them. Let's just ride this out.

In many ways he's a victim of his own success. I don't think many of us would have been surprised if we finished lower mid table last season. If we had, and then sold Morgan and Clyne we wouldn't have been expecting much this season either. Alas, we had a stonking first half of the season against the odds (predicted to be in a relegation battle by some pundits), and we all ended up with an elevated opinion of ourselves. We've struggled with depth previously but had a strong first 11, but the best of those have now been sold. For whatever reason we made what now looks like a half arsed attempt at replacing those that we sold, whilst also increasing the squad size at no extra expense, and we're paying for it now with an average squad and very few top half players. Assuming JRods return from injury was going to be seamless was another big gamble that has massively backfired. This has all been exacerbated by other clubs spending more and bringing in match winners thanks to the increased money coming into the PL. Ron's far from perfect but he's had a tough start papered over by our fantastic start last season. We need some stability to the team and Ron needs to be backed in the upcoming transfer windows. I can't see how sacking Ron will help. The issue for me is that we are likely to sell Mane and Wanyama and then we really do have a lot of work to do. If we were to replace those two in a similar manor to how we replaced Morgan and Clyne then we'll be in big big trouble.
Our team and squad is average, Ron needs to turn things around and stop the rot, but I'm not expecting much above 12th come the end of the season. We just need to realise where we currently are, the position we are in, and back the team and Ron to get us through to the summer. Then it's down to Les and co. and the black box and if they don't adjust to where we are and what's happening with spending in the league, then I wouldn't be surprised if Ron left of his own accord.

That's not entirely unreasonable. I do not think sacking managers midsession is smart, but desperate times and all...

But we are in 12th place right now. And the bottom teams will not catch up that fast because they will lose a lot. That is why they are in last place.

It will be at least 6 weeks before we need to think about it. And I still think relegation is only a very remote possibility right now.
