Mag in peace - Derby games

Discussion in 'Sunderland' started by Heavy Metal Toon, Jul 22, 2011.

  1. I was just thinking about the derby days, and i'm just trying to work out what team we'll be annihilating... i mean playing against on August 20th?

In my opinion, i think your best team is -

    -------------Gordon---------------

    Oshea----Bramble---Brown---Bardsley

    ----Cattermole--------Gardner-------

    Elmo---------Sessegnon-------Richardson

    ---------------Gyan-----------------

    Does that look about right?

You'll most likely be up against -

    --------------Harper/Krul---------------

    Simmo-----Taylor-------Coloccini---Enrique

    -------Cabaye-----------Tiote----------

    Barton--------Ben Arfa------Gutierrez/Marveaux

    -------------Ba/New striker------------

    Subs:
    Gutierrez/Marveaux
    Best
    Ameobi (Dun dun dun) :D
    Williamson
    Ryan Taylor
    Ferguson
    Harper/Krul

I'm personally predicting we'll lose 2-1 at your ground, 1 goal from Gyan, 1 from Richardson, and Ba or Ameobi to nod home a Barton cross.

And i reckon we'll beat you 3-1 at our ground - Barton, Taylor and Ameobi with the goals for us, and 1 goal from Sessgnon from you.

I know it's stupid predicting derby games, but if i had to make a prediction, that would be it.

    <ok>

Gordon is out so he won't be playing, think it all depends on Westwood's recovery from his shoulder op as to who starts between the jumpers. Think Larsson will start in place of Elmo as well but your probably right after that.

Ameobi is bound to score so I'll put you down for at least 1 but don't have any predictions as to the final score

You could be about right with our team selection, but replace Riccho with he who shall not be named.
    Also replace Elmo with Larson.

Too early to make a serious prediction, don't know who each team is going to bring in between then and now. Though it wouldn't surprise me if neither team signed anyone else between now and 20th August.

I'm going to put it out there and say.... I think but not hope that Newcastle will go down this season.
I think they will purely because I don't think they will score enough goals and they will concead to many, and I hope they don't because i love the buzz of derby games and it's an easy 6 points ;)

I dont think either of us will go down.

Swansea will be the surprise package for the 1st half of the season, then slip down the league but still survive, Blackburn, Norwich, QPR (if they dont sort their problems out) if they do then Wolves for the drop for me.

I predict we will win 9-1 and retire the game around 70mins.

No guarantees of a single point in any game (unless you play in Serie A I suppose....)

In terms of the team I think that's fairly close. Larsson in for Elmo and a new LW would suit me fine!

What an earth makes you think that?

We aren't like other newly promoted teams, so the only way we'll succumb to second season syndrome is if we ROYALLY **** everything up ourselves.

    Ba
    Ben Arfa
    Cabaye
    Enrique
    Coloccini
    Barton
    Tiote
    Krul

Are all really good players, and some of them wouldn't look out of place in a top 6 side. No other newly promoted club has ever had that sort of quality in a side before. We've been really lucky that we've held onto some good players from before relegation, and we still have the muscle to get good players on quite high wages. It's being unable to sign quality players on £30,000/£40,000/£50,000+ per week which really causes difficulty for newly promoted clubs. Fortunately, we don't have that problem when it truly matters.

So yes, I don't think either of us will go down. In fact, I suspect Sunderland and Newcastle will be battling it out quite high up the table.

But yeah, whether we win or lose in the first derby game depends on:

1). How well the players have gelled by then
    2). Who's injured
    3). Who else we sign
4). Whether Ben Arfa is fit and back to his best

Let's hope we can both field a strong team for the derbies. <ok>

Of those players you have mentioned at least 2 of them probably wont be playing in the first derby, Enrique and Ben arfa for different reasons. Also Krul for me is not a good goalkeeper he makes some great saves but makes too many clangers. You would be better off sticking with Harper of giving Forster his chance but again thats my opinion.

I also find your 4 points at the end slightly arrogant that you think the outcome of the derby rests purely with what is going on with your side and nothing to do with ours. Personally i feel if we turn up we will turn you over but if we dont play to 100% youve got every chance of coming away with a point or even a win. Whatever happens my ticket arrived the other day and i cant bloody wait. I hate it when tickets arrive far too early and you start getting excited until you realise its still 4 bloody weeks away.

It will almost certainly be Mignolet in goal, and that's regardless whether Gordon is fit or not.

Don't agree that ba wouldn't look out of place in a top 6 team, Barton is nO good in my opinion, Ben arfa injured to much, I just don't think you will score enough goals mate sorry, defence is iffy aswell like I said!

And after you go off the field in the 70th minute we'll just walk the ball into the net 20 times in the time remaining for a 21-9 victory. <ok>
