I didn't say United never spend any money. You said we spent 100s of millions the year after we were champions. When did that happen?
No they are ******s. It completely skewed transfer prices in a major ****ed up way, so much so that even average players are going for £20m+. Luiz went for £50m. Bale went for £85m and he wasn't half the player Ronaldo was. Madrid have to shoulder some of that blame. It didn't start with Ronaldo either, (Zinedine Zidane). They may have been good players, but they really ****ed up the whole market by introducing prices like that.
Yeh, it's never happened. It's gone into popular folklore that United spent vast amounts of money every summer under Fergie. Pre the Glazers there were often marquee signings (but the spending was not as big as people assume), after the Glazers arrived it was very much a balance the books job. Roman's Chelsea have only ever really came up against United under the Glazers.
Weren't you guys booing him after he went his 3rd season without the league? I remember reading a lot of united fans thinking he was long in the tooth before he came storming back. I wasn't there though so i might be wrong about this
A players is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for them. They wanted Ronaldo and they wanted Bale, so they had to pay whatever the selling clubs wanted for them. If they hadn't payed the big money they wouldn't have got the players. So you could say the selling clubs are just to blame as they are the ones demanding the big fees. It's not to much different though to how Chelsea swamped the market back in 2004 though. You may not have spent a fortune on 1 player in particular, but you definately raised the bar in terms of financial clout in England
Quite possibly, that was over 25 years ago so I can't be certain. Although as he hadn't won the league he didn't have credit in the bank so it's not really comparable with Jose.
Yes, and the ******ed price they were prepared to pay ****ed it for the rest of world football. Its what lead to clubs like Portsmouth and Leeds getting ****ed over financially. Those clubs and the personnel involved aren't blameless of course, they mismanaged the money, but Real certainly need to shoulder some of the blame.
I think he means in 2006, when he hadn't won in 3 seasons. (Arsenal's invincibles in 2004, followed by back to back titles for us under Jose).
Well I was on a board called "Football Matters" back then. I remember specifically a section of United fans wanting him out and saying he was past it etc etc. Not sure I recall Booing of him at games though, but then again I dont go to United games, so I wouldn't Dont remember hearing anything though.
Hm. The words "Bale" "HIAG" and "prediction" come to mind with this bold statement of yours. PIXIE, among others, gave me massive amounts of grief when, contrary to a fairly popular belief at the time, not least that of Spurs legend Cliff Jones, he left. I trust that you are ready for the wum-onslaught that you are inevitably going to face, should Mourhino, one day, take over the reigns at United?
Not to mention UiR's statement that Jose will NEVER come back to Chelsea and if he came back to England it would only be to United. Definitely!!!!
Like I have mentioned hundred times, Comparing Alex with Jose is a huge insult to Jose. Jose neither had Alex's - 'half a decade luck' nor 'power to break player coups' nor 'to ship them instantly' nor 'was the only financial powerhouse of the league for most of his tenure'.
What sort of atmosphere do we think we'll get this weekend. I expect some rousing support for Jose and a fair few boos/discontent towards the players deemed responsible (Costa and Fabregas most likely). Thoughts??
