Hope you don't mind if I start a new thread, normally if I do I get castigated or completely ignored (you don't know how bad that makes me feel (lol). But I was trying here to get a discussion going re the subject as opposed to the post being quietly pushed into the bowels of the forum so that perhaps if indeed we have someone from City's coaching staff trolling these boards looking for ideas on how to improve the performance of the team that they might consider this suggestion since lots of this board were discussing it. I know this is a fanciful idea, and maybe fanciful is perhaps not too strong of a word, more like "a ridiculous notion", but here goes
First of all let me say I thought McGregor last night was outstanding, MOM performance, without his great saves in the first half it would have been game over. But also I noticed in the second half he showed lots of leadership in getting the team to up the action with his demeanor and his desire to get the game moving (except of course when we were ahead). This included on quite a few occasions on actually throwing the ball out so that we could build a move up from the back as opposed to hoofing it out only for the other team to retrieve the ball. We should do this more, why give the ball away straight away from the first kick. Nobody seems to complain if the goalie gives it away right from the off, whereas if a player makes a bad pass then we all moan like crazy, and thats when the player is probably under significant pressure. When the goalie has the ball he is under no pressure but not body complains when he gives it away. With movement it must surely be very easy for outfield players to get into a position to receive the ball and for us to then patiently build up a move. If the move breaks down then this is no worse than giving the ball away to the opposition right from the goalie kick out.

Well, what was your idea? You've just given a description of McGregor's performance.

I was trying to make the case for the goalie to throw the ball out as opposed to hoofing it upfield only for the opposition to get it.

Pretty clear I need to go back to school to brush up on how to express myself.

Even though I suspect it was an accident, you made a decent case for him being made captain in Daws' absence. <laugh>

Mate, you're going about this all wrong. If you're not in the clique, you need to think long and hard about the subject matter.

Fish & chips is a good starting point to ease yourself into it.

Or simply a heading of 'Allam, ya ****' would work wonders.

I don't start too many threads myself, but one of my more successful was titled, along the lines of, 'Fruit teas, are they gay'.

That's the kind of level you need to come in at.

    And more spaces.

It makes things a lot easier.

    To read.

Great advice. Like spaces myself. Also hyphens and double exclamation marks. Strunk and White would be disappointed.

Enlightened to find even a hint that we might have a few cliques on here. I would never have thought it, how naive of me. Never felt this bad since I was ostracized by my Dad for supporting Ted Heath (lol).

Great suggestions as well for starting a new thread in the future. Appreciate the advice.

    Aye, there was.

The kind that any young 'un on here would be wise to follow.

    You too Brady.

That's a thread idea for you right there WST.

The combined pulling knowledge of all the old boys on here, brought together in one place, could be an extremely valuable resource.
