My biggest issue with it is that it looks crap.

The size is secondary, I think a 3,500 venue would still be good, I just find it hard to believe it's going to cost £36m.

Common sense would be announcing it as soon as they've got planning, not immediately after having it rejected.

I'd guess that the announcement was related to the bidding process as much as anything. At least it limits future hurdles, and the contractors can start putting plans in place.

They should start off by planning something that doesn't look like this monstrosity...

I prefer it to some of the old slum type buildings people keep trying to preserve, and it pisses all over that mess they've just opened in Beverley.

I think it's 3500 seats whilst Brid Spa is 3800 when standing only. Maybe they can remove some of the seats to make it bigger for gigs where standing is wanted. I think the location is perfect. It needs to be in the city centre to help kickstart it's evening economy and also within walking distance of the station.

Ah, so they've built a **** building in Beverley, so now they should build a **** one in Hull?

    Good thinking.

If its orientation is facing West and height is decent then it needs a rooftop bar/restaurant with views S/E over the marina surely?

Nah, in the unlikely event anyone claimed that, it that would be stupid thinking, although it's interesting that ERYC rate payers don't seem to grumble about ERYC as much on here.

I looks like Hull Council disagree with your view on how they use that bit of the budget, shall you be casting your vote elsewhere?

Yes, 1,700 when used as a theatre. Though there is another theatre holding 650 as well. Quite flexible and host to a variety of events.

It does seem that some people who don't live in Hull have an almighty interest in all things Hull over where they have actually chosen to live.

I live 17 miles from the city centre, it's hardly like I've ****ed off to Leeds or anything.

And just as the majority of City season pass holders come from the East Riding, it's likely that this facility would also need to attract East Yorkshire residents for it to work, so it's unsurprising that we'd take an interest in something that's targeting us as customers.

The fact that you were responding to Dutch's post to me and I was the East Riding resident talking about something in Hull.

    The reasons for refusal...

    REFUSED for the following reasons:-

    01) The proposed mixed use performance and entertainment venue and conferencing facility is not of an adequately high standard of design contrary to policies G2, BE1, BE6, E1, T1, CF1 and CC1 of the Local Plan.

    02) The proposed use is not considered to be compatible with the predominant land use in the locality, to the detriment of the amenity and viability of the area, and contrary to policy G4 of the Local Plan.

    03) The proposed use would have a detrimental impact on the amenities of neighbouring uses and occupiers as a consequence of noise generation and hours of operation contrary to policies G2, G4, ME2, BE1, BE17, E1, T1, CF1 and CC1 of the Local Plan.

    I don't understand No.3 at all, there's nothing there?
