My biggest issue with it is that it looks crap. The size is secondary, I think a 3,500 venue would still be good, I just find it hard to believe it's going to cost £36m.
Common sense would be announcing it as soon as they've got planning, not immediately after having it rejected.
I'd guess that the announcement was related to the bidding process as much as anything. At least it limits future hurdles, and the contractors can start putting plans in place.

I think it's 3500 seats whilst Brid Spa is 3800 when standing only. Maybe they can remove some of the seats to make it bigger for gigs where standing is wanted. I think the location is perfect. It needs to be in the city centre to help kickstart it's evening economy and also within walking distance of the station.

Yes, 1,700 when used as a theatre. Though there is another theatre holding 650 as well. Quite flexible and host to a variety of events.
It does seem that some people who don't live in Hull have an almighty interest in all things Hull over where they have actually chosen to live.
I live 17 miles from the city centre, it's hardly like I've ****ed off to Leeds or anything. And just as the majority of City season pass holders come from the East Riding, it's likely that this facility would also need to attract East Yorkshire residents for it to work, so it's unsurprising that we'd take an interest in something that's targeting us as customers.
