If the club has a vision to revert back to one of our classic designs then I respect that and have no problem. However the finals should be IMO a lot better quality than the four shown Sea hoop did a very professional steer on this format which beats these efforts hands down IMO and I would vote for that Loopy apologies the entire piece I did took 2 hours a few weeks back and any designer in the industry at a top level would be expected to do it a hour. My original design however was in my head a few heads back for months until I got time to put it down. It was a hobby project nothing more I come across maybe as cocky on here because that's my job and it gets up people's noses. I push brands through although I am about to semi retire. The design and marketing industries are very cut throat and brands need to be pushed everyday to work successfully Our club has a very poor media department we know that and you only have to look at it all for a few minutes to see what a mess they have got into. They are simply unaware of any brand strategy it appears. These opportunities come up rarely and need a lot more work and effort that I have thrown at it. To revert back to a classic is great but why not get the original redrawn professionally before release
Love DTs version and hope you don't mind DT but I've screen grabbed it for my iPad background / wallpaper. Question DT did you consider putting QPR across the middle hoop at all, think this may have linked in what most people refer to us as? Although I do understand your logic of not losing the Queens Park Rangers. If I had to vote for one of the options given I would go option 2 but feel like not really moving forward. Option 1 too basic and 3&4 over egging the wavy font. Probably won't vote as they don't seem to listen anyway. Have any cross forum opinions been sort re DTs design?
Would just like to echo everyone else's sentiments on here, what a great job you've done mate, would get my vote hands down.
Thanks lads Seriously however and sincerely the released rationale I sent did only take a few hours after 9s said Lee Hoos wanted to know more. The development of a long standing brand takes a lot more work than what I delivered quickly. I have received communication from the club inviting a meet. I fully respect the decision of the club to return to a classic design but the submitted designs do not give credit to that great badge IMO ... The old one is still stronger. I want the design to encapsulate our club from a thousand paces while recapturing all the elements we deserve to feel proud about We are already QPR that's not going to change ... It's ours hence why I developed two versions because we are unique ... It's the symbology that will be powerful going forward. It's a sad world but those things are important today. We are the hoops in both blue and red and it hurts me to see people stealing our iD
I hope you go along to the meet TW...even if they (the voting masses) do not select your design... your ethos and clear thinking from a true fan could certainly help the club in understanding what we their adoring masses want. Please go along TW...you are like a breath of fresh air...
I said about the Christmas Video "I think that TF and the board should hold an investigation to discover how the 8yo daughter of one of the media team was allowed to use club facilities to produce a video for her year 4 Christmas project." I now want to know how her 14yo brother got the job of designing the club crest.
None of them are a patch on DT's design, but if that's what the powers that be want to go with so be it......shame..... No 2 is the best of a bad lot IMO as it it kind of based on the cup final badge from 1982.......
Good Lord Trams, is this what we've come to? 'if the powers that be want it....' Will we put up with any old tat? Are we not QPR fans? Do we not demand quality (don't answer that)? Shall we not fight this invidious imposition til our final breath? Arise ye hoops and stand with me for your birthright! We rise at dawn, or perhaps 8 for a continental breakfast, and ride to battle! Too much?
I started reading this thread thinking 'I don't really care about the badge'. If I was voting for the four at the start of this thread, I would choose No.1 However, having read DT's rationale and seen a larger version of his badge in the pdf, I think it trumps the others and would vote for it if I had a chance. The only thing that made me chuckle was to include us and Reading amongst the likes of Bayern, PSG and FCB! One day!! (QPR, not Reading!)
Reading was there to demo the task we face to win back our hoops once and for all . This was about making sure our identity hijacked or reclaimed every element we have made famous ... And we are the real deal from London , London the most famous city in the world and the home of football. All other pretenders please bigger off we own the hoops in both blue and red We are QPR and we are also Queens Park Rangers We need dual branding and they need to mesh so a symbol is required and if we could also make it simple then it hits the ground running . Regardless of our football we could align ourselves with a trendy brand After all our growth relys on new numbers that means attracting new fans Revamping a brilliant old design very badly isn't going to do that
DT's effort should at the very least be acknowledged by the club; shameful and disrespectful of the club to ignore it. Of the poor "official" efforts, I think they are all too similar but would if forced to choose, go with no.2 only because it reminds me of the day seeing Fenwick's goal at Wembley.
I think the biggest problem for the designs suggested is that they are simply not contextualised - i.e. there is no sense of how they would appear in actual usage. DT's treatment, while we might not se eye to eye on his design, does have a full and clearly articulated rationale for the usage. The club should stop treating the fans like idiots and produce something that represents the new badge in context of this usage and demonstrate how it fits in who the current marketing materials or even how it progresses those materials. The suggested versions are interesting as drafts, but in actual usage... nothing is shown bar crappy photoshopped shirts... for example, the typeface... this is completely is at odds with all of the current marketing collateral, which means what? Is this the new club typeface - if so how does it integrate or replace what is current. My biggest bugbear lies in the actual technical application of the design... look at the typography in the attached image... I really question the choice of typeface - it does not lend itself to the primary usage, which is an embroidered badge - the kerning (individual letter spacing) is truly dreadful - take a closer look at the space between the Q, U and the E of Queens (Q-U-EENS) and the N and the G of Rangers (RAN-GERS) and between the 1 and the 8 of 1882 (1-882) Actually another bugbear is the typeface used... Optima... really? Is this 1995? A sloppy draft design and smacks of an internal job. In itself not a problem unless those doing it are approaching it in a half arsed manner, which is what this appears to be. Dare I suggest TF and the board asked for 3 'versions'... so they produced something to pacify the masses and to suggest that there is some sort of a choice... frankly it's a very weak selection - uncomplicated by context, application or any apparent thought at all. I am (and always have been) very on board with the retro ideals of a redesign - it's just a shame it has been presented in such a poor and frankly slapdash manner.
They are all poor, really amateurish. I think they should go to a professional advertising agency like Saatchi & Saatchi and get some real designs, and dump all the designs from Wormholt Park Primary School. (Or if they really want to splash out they could ask Ted)
I think that TWGWTDT's design is outstandingly superb in design and concepts, and I sincerely hope that the club have a change of heart and add this to the range of choices they are proposing. Whilst it would take a little humility, no where is it written in stone that these are the final choices. It's never too late to add more options.
There is no real choice as they are all too similar. If it was a genuine vote it makes sense to have different styles and also an option of keeping the current. I wasn't a fan of the current but I'm used to it and would actually keep it over the 4 presented as they feel a backward step. I like DT's and would vote for that over any. I also accept the club have a difficult task as this is about personal taste so some will always dislike what is produced. DT, I wouldn't give up. I'd plaster your rationale across all R's message boards to canvas thought and opinion. Market research to send to the club. If there is overwhelming support the club would be silly to ignore. Perhaps a poll on each board would be the way forward. I'd include the 4 club ones, the current and the DT. My tech capabilities prevent me creating one here including each of the designs! Just a thought!
You've convinced me Mate and I am a branding Luddite. Sadly, I am not able to influence their decision. Well done again.
Trouble is S&S are no longer a force I work for a bigger concern worldwide Most agencies in the world collaborate with us anyway Talent I would suggest VCCP - who I fight with daily Adam & Eve Mother My lot include Smoke&Mirrors Rockhound and Big Buoy It makes the whole thing daft at QPR as we reject interns with real talent each day who in their own rights are good enough to run QPR's media department It may come as no surprise that the reason I know my design is strong is because I have had senior colleagues worldwide look at it last year and they couldn't beat it Seahoop is in the industry he knows what's what and I am guessing he also knows that if this was a serious pitch and not a hobby then a client would expect a 200-500 page rationale, presentation and a heap of marketing research. Want a jaw dropper? Accenture brand work from us Over $200m Stateside we do most of Coca Cola and have won it again Most financial companies in the world ... Us Lads I am a old fart who gave up my interest and career ten years ago and work today just to live. I can tell you inside the monster that is advertising there is a world most couldn't comprehend. So the QPR thing is nothing more than a hobby which I should of kept separate from work. When you crossover then you can never turn off Cost me two marriages Better things in life than logos or making money. I tapped into what my true love QPR could be, players, managers and chairmen will all come and go ... The club belongs to you The hoops belong to you London belongs to you Where are we now? The four logos wouldn't make scamps
On the money as usual However you will agree there should never be a actual font in a logo ever My typography is easy but with careful mods to the outlines
