We had your choice before Red Robin in SOD and it was an absolute disaster, without doubt the worst manager Bristol City have ever employed!
The guy had his hands tied behind his back and was made a scapegoat. I really did feel for the guy when he was here. Great football brain.
I really don't understand this anti Coots feeling and pro SOD, one has got us promotion and is fighting like hell to keep us up and has still got a smile on his face, the other just gave up, sold most of our assets and was the most miserable, ill mannered bastard I ever saw down the Gate plus they both experienced problems with the board but one of them is determined to preserve our status.. Give me Cotts any day, I understand him.
Absolute rubbish, Does the "hands tied behind his back" argument not apply to Cotterill then? You sat and watched as SOD took us out of the league without so much as a whimper.. **** manager, and if you think thats a good football brain you need yours testing! He stumbled on a system that was being experimented with on the continent and was briefly successful but soon found out. You're the one making Cotterill a scapegoat!
Certainly does,i am not sure if it was a board issue that players were not brought in,or SC said he was happy to go with last seasons squad. When the early panic started two crazy offers of 8 million plus were made, but we did not want to pay the wages to go with it so i am lead to believe.
For what it's worth, my view is, SC is still a very good manager, possibly one of the best we've had for a number of years. he try's to play the football that most FOOTBALL fans enjoy (I think). We don't know what goes on behind the scenes and what decisions he's allowed regarding signings or is it we are unable to attract decent players. Problem is, success attracts players and we are not at that stage yet...Plus we had a very bad start to the season and when things aren't going your way it becomes an up hill struggle. For me the end of the season can't come soon enough, we need to dip into the January market with some decent loan players to keep us in the championship and then employ top scouts to look in the lower leagues for players with the hunger and determination (Jamie Vardy type) to push this club forward. I think with the enthusiasm of our manager, it will be a recipe for success. To lose SC now will do us no good whatsoever, who would come in ffs?
Another manager with better excuses? I have thought that sometimes SC comes up with some pretty poor excuses for losing and yet secretly I think he is using that as a buffer to offload the ultimate responsibility from where it truly lies. Support the man in place or get someone else who will suffer the same fate and we'll back on the merry go round forever. Get it fixed.
I'm a simple little fellow but to those who want SC out, please explain how a new manager can come in and know these players better and how to motivate them more than a guy who won a league and cup with them last season.? We need new players not a new boss, too many players who were superb last season have been average or below this season, that needs fixing, If SL has money available in Jan he needs to fully back SC and let him get players in, then SC has to deliver by May. If not, then and for my money only then does SL have decision to make on who will be manager next season.
A lot of people are knocking the summer transfer window, and to be honest I would of expected most of the team who done so well last year to be good enough this year. We got rid of a few players who were only part timers last year and replaced them. For JeT see Kodjia a back up player swapped with a permanent player. For Greg Cunningham we had Joe Bryan and Williams for replacement. As Fredericks could of played in Williams role if needed. Who was respected by Middlesborough fans but upset the tight knit squad we had so had to depart quickly from what I heard. I don't think the last two bids was panic offers. One was for a player that we was reported to be monitoring and looking him being top scorer now proved he's worth it. The other was a shot in the dark that nearly paid off and would of been good business if he at least agreed to talk to us. It was no ones fault that one turned us down to go to a more promising club in Burnley form what I heard that's all, we even offered better wages. The other was the player himself didn't want to step down to the championship, nothing against wages etc but the player. They would of replaced Aaron Wilbraham / Matt Smith. We had bids for Harry Maguire and the Sheffield Wednesday player, both turned down. Both of which we seem to have conveniently forgotten about when saying it was a no activity. So 4 failed bids that we know about, how many others that none of us knew about? If one of each position, was successful that would of been with the ones who signed 4 ew players. Which barring the GK situation would of been around the mark most of us actually wanted. We made in my opinion two errors and one was not replacing Elliott. He was a leader an that gave the team the push they needed when faltering last season. The other was as I said in the opening paragraph and for that 90-95% of us was guilty off. As to his after match speeches, excuses comments I constantly hear on here. You have two options one is to praise the team in defeat and defend your decisions, the other is to do the one that was done last night. Now I suspect the one last night telling and naming ne or two would possibly do more harm than good. It's a little bit like when your kids play up at someone's house you tend to say "I don't know what's come over them, they are normally well behaved" even though you probably said that last time you was there. It's just a defence mechanism in us to try and justify the outcome.
So 4 failed bids that we know about, how many others that none of us knew about? Failed bids or not, the word failed still applies in that we failed to secure more than 1 permanent signing who is worthy of playing at this level. And the way things are right now, someone will come along with a few quid and take him off our hands in January. I want SC to stay but the squad we have is not competitive enough at this level. From what I heard and saw, it seemed like men against boys last night.
I agree with him to be honest. I'm sorry no matter how **** he was here you cannot judge a man entirely by his record at one club. The bit in bold... well no it doesn't. Of note, SoD managed to sign Fielding, JET (of which Ipswich were paying some of his wages), Pack (League Two wages), and Flint. In that time he also lost Skuse, Stead, Davies and Adomah; his transfer dealings were at a profit to the club if anything. Whereas Cotts has signed Wade Elliott and Wilbraham (wouldn't be cheap) and Smith, Agard and Freeman of whom both were wanted by Champ clubs so we were presumably paying a fair bit, with only the loss of Baldock. There is a clear difference between the backing that both managers were given. It doesn't take a genius to work out that SoD is clearly an intelligent man with a VERY good football brain. You can claim that others need their brain testing as much as you like but if you're incapable of being open-minded enough to see past his experiences with one club (in restricted circumstances) then I'd suggest it's you who needs testing! I don't like the bloke, and while he failed to get any results here there are clearly many worse managers around.
My opinion is your talking bollocks, and I have formed it from my experience of seeing the man in action, nothing more, nothing less!
Steve Cotterill has a much larger % budget than Sean O'Driscoll did, but hands tied behind his back applies very much to both Head Coaches / Managers.

much much larger Clifton,As said Sod was a scapegoat, the guy would have built us into a quality unit if he has been given the funds and time.
