Hunt won our Player Of The Season by default, as no-one else entered, the rest were all ****e. Harper was crap. We still miss Rosie.
I know you've not updated this season but you did sign 2 from us in the summer... What about our second greatest player of all time, Sir William of Whitehurst? Didn't he turn out for you guys?
Dennis Butler signed for us in 1963 for £6k and left us for Reading, according to the Chelsea player profile website.
Remember going to Elm Park when Moran was playing for us: top of the table clash in the Third Division. In the second half, they started chanting: “There’s only one Billy Whitehurst”; have to admit I didn’t have a clue why, until… “Billy Whitehurst shagged your wife” was then directed at Moran. Would have been better if they’d have provided pictures of Moran’s wife to allow us to make a reasonable assessment, but still.
We were top of the table when Moran was playing for us?!? Actually pretty sure he was around during successive 3-4 away victories at Cambridge and Cardiff that took us top-ish under Dolan. I went to both and think he even scored at the latter.
Yeh – I went to both too. Moran scored some type of scuffed goal from about a yard at Cardiff – also, sure he was given a daft number by Dolan too, 2 or 3. When we played Reading, we were circa second/third. They had the imperious veteran Jimmy Quinn playing for them, who seemed like a goal machine at that level, and went up that year with Port Vale (?)
Yep, thats how I recall it too. I remember the weirdness of walking through what seemed like a field of cows to get to Cambridge's ground and, the way i recall it, we were never in front, it being 1-0,1-1,2-1, 2-2, 3-2 then 3-3 and then Linton Brown got the ball in injury time and everyone on the away end was screaming for him to run it into the corner to play for a point and he just bore down on goal and drilled it into the corner to bring sheer ecstasy to the away end. We then went to Ninian 2 weeks later, where they were unbeaten for over a year, and just did a job on them with Chris Lee scoring twice, including a true wonder goal, but we were again down 3-2 until nearly the last minute before Matt Bound equalised and then Moran got a winner to amazing scenes and then we got pelted with rocks on the run back to the coach. Amazing that i can remember all this (I think) but I dont remember what I had for breakfast today.
I remember stuff from the ‘80s and ‘90s miles more than now. Being a teenager, I truly lived it – used to only miss one or two games a season as it was affordable to travel, drink and get in. I think Dolan said after our two 4-3 away wins, he’d prefer to win 1-0 everytime. Windass got a hattrick two weeks running too: Cambridge and Bristol R. Great season, looking back. Punctuated by the music I was listening to and the girls I was (unsuccesfully) pursuing.
