When I used to play ,according to WJ all my passes were killer passes it was just that the rest of the team were so slow
Being an ex footballer of many years, I can understand what you're trying to say Jock. The experienced players may pass the ball into a space that another of our players should be running onto however, it might take a less experienced receiving player a couple of seconds to realise why the pass was made and why he should be running into that space for the ball. Example, Cr Ronaldo spots a team mate unmarked and makes a superb pass down the flank into space for his team mate to run on to, the team mate, Frederico Aldo Bloggino, lacks the experience to realise a second or two earlier where the pass is going and is slow setting off, and doesn't make it to the ball; the idea and pass was brilliant, the receiving was not. Doesn't have to be a less experienced player, it could also be an out of form experienced player. I've also heard commentators say similar things......
A brilliant idea poorly executed doesn't make it bad idea. It makes it a bad execution. Likewise, if a killer pass is made, and a dummkopf recipient doesn't understand that he should be anticipating a pass into a dangerous area, then he pass is go. Aha! Someone else with brains!
That's certainly what hoofball Warnock tried to tell us.... But we knew better then and we know better now.
You'd be right in one respect ristac, a through ball intended for another player, be it too the player or into space for the player to run onto is a pass. Some may say brilliant pass, while others may say great through ball, and others may say great ball; depends how people say it, but if the ball is intended for another player (preferably ours) then it's classed as a pass.....
