In Borini's defence he's come from a situation where he was sidelined at his previous club despite his efforts and now he's got pressure to start delivering. The price tag isn't his fault and it was fair enough for him to try and prove himself at Liverpool. Then again. His actual goal scoring record is pretty poor and you watch people like Oghalo, Deeney, Vardy, Mahrez, etc. come into the league playing for unfashionable teams and make it look pretty easy really. We have a similar conundrum with Mitrovic and although we try and tell ourselves he's young and learning (and possibly Mitro offers the team more overall) the truth of the matter is they both should have scored more by now. It's a worry.
I think people who were shouting to bring him back to the SOL had been caught up in the euphoria of his goals against City and the mags. Realistically in my opinion he was never what we needed and in fact was quite mediocre.
Ha, yeah Marcus. Hasn't Defoe only started 9 games this season but scored 7 goals? Borini still hasn't ****ing scored yet
Still got time for the lad although he looks short of confidence, one is the obvious one due to lack of goals and the other with injury problems so lack of match fitness. Last time he was at Sunderland did the job of being out on the left yet Watmore started there and wasn't getting much joy from their right back. Should have swapped that over earlier in the game. Toivenon when he came on against Villa looked a beast and I thought once he got match fit he would be dynamite. Well he's match fit now and seems slower than he was then. To me just hasn't got the pace for the EPL.........
I think he's played well in your last two matches, he's been the link up player you've missed. He does it well, better than Perez, that kid is better off in the 10 role or maybe even the 9. Asking him to do MF work like De Jong does is partly what got you in this mess in the first place.
I'd still rather have Borini than Wickham. Neither have scored so far this season but Borini has shown in the past that he can score goals in the big games. We have a few of those coming up Ha'way Borini lad let's see more of this... please log in to view this image
He certainly didn't do much last season. In the 13/14 season I recall his double at Man City(2-2) and the goal at Chelsea(1-2) and Borini got the winner from the spot - no pressure like! the other 2 were against Cardiff (4-0) and Borini converted the penalty. I thought this was another Borini thread
Borini vs Wickham is a player comparison that would send me to sleep. Both of them need to wake up, if they want to be called strikers, otherwise they'll find themselves playing outside of this league very soon.
He'll improve with a bit of playing time. The one he missed against the Arse was very similar to the one he scored against City in the LC final, so when he gets his scoring boots on he'll be fine. He earned a bit of time from me with that screamer that beat the mags a few years back.
Borini IMO just isn't a natural goal scorer. He does many things well, but finding the back of the net is just not one of them.
That one he got from distance against the mags makes me think he is a natural goalscorer. He's just not getting enough continual game time at the minute. He'll come good given the chance.
That's quite a lot of patience. Hats off to you. For the record there's a good player in there but it's just a question of whether he can get the performances coming. Even Andros Townsend looks ace on occasion.
