Look, I actually have no problem with him using his money to hire massively expensive studios and producers and making music. That's absolutely his right. But it's really, really ****ing awful, and it kills me that it'll get loads of exposure purely because he has cash to burn when there are actually talented artists that can't survive right now. It's just a horrible waste of airspace inflicting this on people. It's just a massive bloody ego-trip. Got to be honest, it's actually worse than I thought it was going to be.
It's terrible. I mean I have no problem adjusting for people's taste, it's part of my job, and "I don't like it" is very different to "that is ****" - people tend to get very confused between the two when it comes to subjective things. This IS just **** though.
It's almost worth it just to hear how bad it is, and how money (coupled with fame and 'yes-men') can make you so very deluded.
No, I now need to change the subject..... I don't watch strictly, but I was advised by several text messages to turn it on last night ...
Because it's just a huge ego trip. People will only think it's great because it's him and they love anything he does blindly. There's no objective possibility anybody can listen to that and enjoy it. Seriously! And I am VERY open-minded when it comes to music, but that's like me painting a picture and hanging it in a gallery. It's just irksome that people will play the yes-man to it.
From that small clip It doesn't sound like anything new. There is a lot of this sort of dross out there already. I think I was spoilt in the late 70's/80's when people were trying to be different. Now so many people just sound the same.
Think about how it feels if you're incredibly talented and struggling to make ends meet (and going into massive debt) trying to succeed in one of the world's hardest, most brutal industries. Then some berk, purely because he has a bunch of cash and a planetary sized ego, comes and inflicts his utterly dreadful, talentless tripe upon the masses. Ask him how he feels about pay-drivers in F1 and how they're taking the place of actual talent. Then multiply that by a million.
People will buy this because it's him...I wouldn't worry about it depriving anyone else of funds....different audience.
So I went a day and a half not looking at the the result of the McGregor fight. I download the fight, get myself a beer and a glass and settle down to watch the fight. The fight was over before I had finished pouring the beer
The arts are not always about the best...other factors come into it...serendipity being the main one.
