Murray Walker, European Grand Prix, 2007. Commentating is an art and whilst Martin Brundle makes a great co-commentator providing the technical information F1 is a racing sport and IMO is missing the type of lead commentary that gets the pulses racing.
That is true! but you will never find another murray! Legard was a fail but in the right direction of what is needed
Agree that this years commentary is better than last year but I suppose the question is are the beeb looking to improve and find someone with more of a media backround and a bit of the the x factor or are they happy to continue with two ex drivers which is great technically but for me just comes up a bit short on the old pulse. Sounds like it'll be the latter.
The commentary wasn't the same when James hunt died though, I loved hearing JH contradicting Murray, who, tbh, I found somewhat annoying most of the time, much like people feel about Legard I think.
I watched the classic f1 earlier, i'd forgotten how bad legard was. let's be grateful for what the beeb have provided us with this season.
I want to try commentating. I have a lot to say, none of it relevant in any way. I'd be a perfect fit.
Not strictly relevant to commentary but Jake Humphrey declares his love for Vettel.... I followed the link on one of his tweets but he ruins the article with a complete lack of F1 knowledge: I won't be too upset if he ****s off to the Olympics.
He is, but the BBC don't have anybody else to present it, i highly doubt somebody like gary lineker would be any good.
Small mercies and all that eh? All that matters to me is that Legard has gone. Permanently. Literally anyone - or any 'thing'; such as a frog, a slug or planet Pluto - is better than Legard. I do not err care for Jonathan 'err' Croft either, but err even he is err light err years ahead of 'err' Legard - the dullard. Brundle does a great job in my opinion. But let's remember he is a race driver; not a commentator. He has to ask Coulthard leading questions, to which he himself knows the answer. But in spite of this, he still does a great job of providing a commentary the BBC seem otherwise incapable of.
I can't say that I've noticed Crofty 'erring' that much but I shall specifically look out for it from now on. I may have to listen to the race on 5 Live this weekend as I'm having to play some funky tunes at a beer festival on Sunday.
I hope you have a good time at the beer festival Westy. Good luck. Have fun. But I'm surprised you've not noticed err Crofty's multitude of "err"s: he's even worse err for it than Sue err Barker. How can someone who knows a simple telephone number off by heart manage to insert "err" bang in the middle of it? I kid you not: "eight double-one double-one err eight double-one double-one". But compared with Legard, Crofty is simply light years ahead of course…
I'm disappointed in you then - not noticing the double entendre. 'Alonso nearly driving up Schuey 's backside'. I'm wasted on here.
