Could well have been after Xmas, I can't remember what was said exactly, but it was certainly reported.
A bit melodramatic, a tweet from a local journalist was never going to have an effect on anyone's livelihood. We could start a rumour about Mike...
Found it and he didn't actually say 'after' Christmas... Mike White@mikewhitesport As per our story on @RadioHumberside, Hull City's Robert Snodgrass has suffered a further setback & is out until at least Christmas. #hcafc All a bit over the top, I really don't think it warrants this much attention, we're ten days off Christmas and he's still not ready to start a game.
Right, in what is is "at least Christmas" different to "after Christmas"? Unless he made his first on pitch appearance on Christmas Day itself it means EXACTLY the same thing. And as I keep saying, he's been playing for the best part of a month. And he hadnt 'suffered a setback'. So in my eyes it warrants a lot of attention.
Well he quite obviously did have a set back of some sort, he was originally due to return far earlier than he has.
Are you forgetting the story the club felt compelled to put out on the same day as White's tweets debunking them?
They key world is highlighted right there. Story. A fictional story. It probably had unicorns and rainbows in it.
This is that statement that the club put out in July, it turned out Mike was closer than the club were... Snodgrass Given Green Light To Step Up Rehab Contrary to reports in the local media, Robert Snodgrass has not suffered a setback and continues his rehabilitation following a serious knee injury sustained in the opening game of last season. Surgery to reconstruct knee ligaments and damage to the patella was expected to see the player require between 9 and 12 months rehabilitation. Both the surgeon and the Tigers’ medical staff are happy with progress so far and Robert has been given the green light to step up his rehab over the summer. Robert is now running under the guidance of the Club’s medical staff and continues his rehabilitation whilst the rest of the squad have a break over the summer. It is expected that Robert will start his pitch-based rehab when the squad meet up at the start of July for pre-season training, and whilst no set date has been put on his return to first team action it is hoped he will play a large part as the Tigers aim to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
I heard a similar story a couple of months back. A lad I work with is mates with Snods' agent, so I asked him to find out how he was getting on. They said they were worried that he might never recover from it, as he'd already had a couple of setbacks. Within 3 or 4 weeks he was stepping up his training programme and looking at playing again. So I guess it shows no-one can really be sure. Probably put more emphasis on the need for Mike White to keep his trap shut!
The point to all of this is, when it's an issue such as this any journalist worth anything should contact the club before running anything either in news or on social media. Simple as. Mike was both unprofessional and irresponsible.
Where does it say in the story on the OWS when he'd be back? Indeed the club go so far as to say 'no set date has been put on his return to first team action'.
It says 9 to 12 months and 12 months would have been back in August. As Carmen has suggested, it's really not worth this much discussion.
If enough people start believing it as gospel then it becomes received wisdom. Look at Charlie Austin - how has he not even been anywhere near a transfer after setting alight the Prem last season? Its because everyone thinks he is fooked. Not getting a move on the basis of received wisdom has probably cost him a million quid and the same couldve happened to Snodgrass if everyone had swallowed White's guff.
