Anyone who actually thinks qualifications or lack of them is some benchmark for intellect is as thick as the people he's criticising. Plenty of intelligent people have no qualifications and plenty of people with degrees are as thick as ****e.
It doesn't state what is meant by "qualification" in the article but I assume it means any of GCSE, NVQ, BTEC and higher level certificates. So a third of people where you live haven't passed ANY exam at school. Are they are all intellectuals who just couldn't be bothered?
Maybe they were dyslexic or had to leave school to actually get a JOB to support their families? Maybe they had a sick relative who they had to care for and could not even complete their education? Many reasons are possible. All of them seemingly beyond your comprehension.

Methinks a certain someone doesn't have any qualifications............ To be honest this information seems to correlate and help show that people in deprived areas are more likely to remain in the same class they were born into if qualifications are the main measurement of success and career prospects.
Used it often Trev? Anyway, your first post was gloating that these areas are 'Catholic' areas. Are Catholics in some way less intelligent than Protestants in your view? In Northern Ireland Catholics far outdo Protestants in education, especially at the lower end. Twice as many Catholics go on to University than Protestants in disadvantaged areas. Does that tell me that Catholics are naturally more inteligent? Of course not. Other social effects come into play, just like Dev said.

Having qualifications doesn't mean you are smart / intelligent... It means you have a good memory and are good at studying information! Show a monkey enough times and it will perform a task - doesn’t mean he's intelligent! Interviewed many people with degrees / formal qualifications that were thick as mince (usually with no personality) and definitely no common sense!
