Just reading Danny Mills weekly blog on TeamTalk and when discussing transfers and player power he let us in to what probably pushed his sale:

''I did it at Charlton when I said hypothetically: "What if I don't want to play for you next season?"

A loooong time ago, but something of interest (well for me anyway). I was a bit young to remember the ins and out of that deal- was it common knowledge that he acted this way to force a move?

I remember when we signed Danny Mills and was thinking 'who the blinkin' hell is he?'. Then he scored on his debut away at Crewe and the rest is history.

An alright player, totally committed on the pitch, but not off it, in my opinion. The transfer fee was a fantastic bit of business considering his limited abilities.

Can't recall any bad blood between him and the club. Plus he did come back on loan for a bit.

One of the worst ever players to play for England - but not as bad as Geoff Thomas!

To be fair to Mills- I thought he had a good WC 2002, along with Nicky Butt.

I wonder whether or not he's referring to the loan spell when he got himself red-carded in order to get home for Christmas? The first time he left the club needed the money, and Curbs used it to build the team.

I guess he means the first move as he addresses it as ''next season'' rather than ''what if I don't want to play for you in January''. Just how I read it though.

He was booed when he came back playing for Leeds, and scored against us at The Valley and didn't seem too keen to play down his celebration, so I think there was a bit of bad blood.

    Yeah deffo Super...

I thought he was quality for us. If we had a RB at the club who was half the player i'd be more than happy...!!

Besides, there's a dozen worse players than him to have played for England...!!

my understanding was that after relegation from the Premier League (the 1st time) we needed the money and he wanted the move and by selling Mills we were able to keep all the other best players like Rufus, Kinsella etc so it probably worked out for both club and player at the time

Think I'd describe him as combative and athletic...not a patch on John Humphrey.

I thought Kim Grant was a good player - I would have him over Benson any day of the week - especially Saturdays and Tuesdays.
