    Beyond it being a virtual non-starter, Robben's on something like 120k p/w.

Not on any!! Maybe I am looking at a situation through rose tinted glasses at the signings Lawrie McMenemy made during his tenure. Keegan, Ball, Osgood, Shilton, Golac. What was the attraction for these guys playing at the Dell? Now we have a decent stadium, much larger crowds, good facilities. I just feel the management of the club need to be a tad more imaginative in the signings. The signings we make these days are not really those that are going to raise the profile of the club to appeal to any latent support in Central Southern England. If Saints could just make one box-office signing it could inspire the team and crowd. It is not going to happen in January but IMO the club should go all out to make such a capture in the mould that Big Lawrie managed to pull off.

If that is the case, this would be offset by increased by shirt sales, better sponsorship deals and attendance up somewhere near the capacity for home matches. I have noticed they dip below 30,000 for fixtures against the lesser teams in the PL. This would not happen with the type of signing that I have suggested.

Selling a few more seats for a few games will hardly bring in the money needed. And I don't think any player would increase our commercial sales by much...unless we sign an American.

One player, regardless of who it is will not have that much of an impact in my opinion

Would never happen but I don't like Robben he has always been a diver. Would hate to see him falling over in a Saints shirt. Not at all Saintly :emoticon-0131-angel

Luis Suarez certainly has had a massive impact at Barcelona! Their performance went up a level once he settled in last winter. Who is to say a marquee signing would not have a similar impact at Saints? Alan Ball, Ron Davies, Jimmy Gabriel, Ivan Golac, David Armstrong, Kevin Keegan.took the performance up a level from where the Saints were prior to their signings.

I watched the recent charity game highlights, England v Rest of the World.
Even now, Ronaldhino's skills and vision are an example to any budding attacking player/attacking midfielder.
My opinion, for the last few seasons has been that we have needed 1, maybe 2, attacking midfielders with similar skill sets to Ronaldhino, so that we can open up teams through the centre, and not just continue hitting crosses from the flanks. It's a shame that Djuricic didn't make the grade, IMO.

You can't compare what Barca do to what we do. A marquee player coming here aint going to happen. You keep on going on about who came here years ago but football is different now.

Would Ron be interested in signing someone on loan like Elia or Djuricic again? They weren't great for us, but they did as well as we could probably expect and gave us options.
