The U18s suffered a 1-0 loss away to Brighton on Saturday, going down to a late goal on the counter. That's almost exactly what happened in their last game. Something of an issue, it seems. Lineup: McDermott, Paul, Brown, Owens (Hayford 66), Tanganga, Maghoma, Edwards, Roles, Loft (Oteh 75), Duncan (Bennetts 66), Shashoua. Substitute (not used): Whiteman (GK). Report: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/u18-brighton-away-report-311015/ The U21s also replicated their last scoreline, beating Schalke04 3-1 last night in the International Cup at Stevenage. Luke Amos opened the scoring from a Kenny McEvoy cross and reports suggest that we were well on top until the break. Things took a turn for the worse for the German visitors only a few minutes into the second half, as they had their goalkeeper dismissed. He took umbrage at a Shayon Harrison challenge and kicked out at him, following this up by booting the ball at the ref when he was booked. Very, very silly. Their sub keeper won't have been thanking the defence when one of them brought down Georgiou a few minutes later. Harrison dispatched the subsequent penalty and you'd expect that to be it. This is Spurs we're talking about, though. 25 minutes to go and Pick pulls one back for Schalke, making it interesting. 16-year-old defender Japhet Tanganga, who was making his debut at this level, grabbed an assist to finish it off with a little over 10 minutes to go. His cross was headed in by Harrison, settling the nerves and making the scoreline more respectable. Spurs: McGee, Walker-Peters, Tanganga, Lesniak, Carter-Vickers, Veljkovic (c), McEvoy, Amos, Harrison, Walkes, Georgiou. Subs: Maghoma, Glover, Miller, Stylianides, Bennetts. That leaves all four teams in the group on 3 points, but Schalke have completed their games, so I don't think that they can progress. Us and Everton have played twice and both still have to play Porto at home. Weird.
Our U21s recorded back-to-back 3-1 wins, firstly against Chelsea last Friday with Shayon Harrison scoring twice, either side of a Veljkovic goal Glover, Walker-Peters, Amos (Bennetts 74), Lesniak, Carter-Vickers, Veljkovic (c), McEvoy (Maghoma 82), Stylianides (Loft 67), Harrison, Walkes, Georgiou Substitute (not used): Voss (GK). ...and then on Tuesday evening we beat Schalke by the same scoreline in the Premier League International Cup, with a Luke Amos header followed by another brace for Harrison McGee (Glover, 46), Walker-Peters, Carter-Vickers, Veljkovic, Tanganga (Bennetts, 83), Amos (Miller, 72), Lesniak, McEvoy, Walkes, Georgiou, Harrison Substitutes (not used): Maghoma, Stylianides
The U18s broke from their theme of losing games 1-0 to a late goal, by conceding early and fighting back to win. They faced West Ham on Saturday at the training ground and managed to nick a 2-1 victory. Highlights: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spu...r-league/barclays-u18-pl--spurs-2-1-west-ham/ Team: Whiteman, Paul, Brown, Owens, Maghoma, Dinzeyi, Bennetts (Tsaroulla 76), Stylianides (Roles 53), Sterling, Duncan (Loft 69), Shashoua. Substitute (not used): Austin (GK). Match report: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/u18-west-ham-home-report-071115/
Kenny McEvoy has been loaned to York City: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/york-loan-for-kenny-251115/ It's hard not to notice that he's gone from being loaned to League One clubs to League Two ones.
CCV, McGee, Oduwa, Harrison and Winks in the squad for tonight. Should we rename this thread "next England star watch"?
Judging by the form he has been showing over the past months, he's fortunate to be going to York rather than somewhere in non-league.
Grant Ward has extended his youth loan at Rotherham until January by turning it into an emergency loan. Lots of work being done with the loan system today, it seems.
The U21s beat Boro 2-1 this afternoon at their place after going behind to an early goal. Joao Morelli got their goal, Shaquille Coulthirst leveled things up in the second half and Anton Walkes won it near the end. The provider of the cross for that goal? Andros Townsend, who played the full 90 minutes. Middlesbrough U21s: Fryer, Johnson, Fry, Elsdon, McGinley (Coulson 68), Tinkler (c), Chapman, Morris, Morelli (Jakupovic 72), Maloney (Wheatley 81), Mondal. Substitutes (not used): Coddington, Jowers. Spurs U21s: Voss, Walker-Peters, Georgiou, Lesniak, Veljkovic (c), Amos, Townsend, Walkes, Coulthirst (Goddard 88), Harrison (J Pritchard 83), Sonupe (Miller 77). Substitute (not used): McDermott (GK). Match report: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/u21-middlesbrough-away-report-301115/?
Paul Jenkins, Boro's U21 coach, had good things to say about Townsend's performance: “I had an inclination on Sunday that Townsend was going to play and I’d like to firstly give credit to the boy himself." “We’ve seen professionals drop into Under-21 groups for whatever reason before, but I thought his attitude was very good." "He came up here on a horrible day for a training ground game and was excellent - fair play to him." Good to see him treating it professionally and not having a strop. Maybe he can force his way back into contention, if not for regular starts, then at least the Monaco game and appearances from the bench? Still think that's he's probably on the way out in January, though.
The Spurs website is streaming the home fixture against Southamtpon on Monday from 6.30pm. Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm at Stevenage's Lamex Stadium.
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/john-mcdermott-picks-up-fa-award-081215/ Just noticed that on the OS, was posted yesterday which I must've missed. A lot of us have spoke about McDermott's work and success with the youngsters so it's nice seeing him rewarded and recognised by the footballing community. "John McDermott, our Head of Player Development, has been recognised for his contribution to coaching at this year’s Football Association coaching awards. John, who oversees our Academy set-up, collected the Outstanding Contribution to Youth Development Award at a presentation at St. George’s Park on Sunday. The prizes were handed out as part of a four-day coaching conference at the national football centre. “I would like to congratulate every coach who picked up an award,” said FA technical director Dan Ashworth. “Each one has achieved fantastic things not only this year but, in several cases, over numerous years. They have all shown incredible commitment to supporting their players, teams and clubs. They are all worthy winners. “These awards are really valuable because they allow us as The FA to recognise some amazing coaches whose commitment, dedication and passion to supporting our national sport would otherwise go without acknowledgement.”
Good evening for the Academy with Onomah looking impressive and Carroll scoring his first Spurs goal.
Onomah is another north Londoner, too. I'd like to see that exact four start again for us in another cup game. I would be very concerned about their combination of pace and work rate if I were the opposition. Lamela clearly enjoyed playing in the middle of the group.
U18 keeper Alfie Whiteman is the most local a local lad can be - not only was he born and raised in Tottenham, he lives a short walk from WHL.
