I rate Naismith but that is quite a significant sum of money

If we got him, and he scored the goals that kept us up, with the money on offer next year, then the money spent on him would not seem that much at all.

We wouldn't go for Gayle and Naismith would we (knowing our limited budget) so who would be the best fit out of the two. I'd prefer Gayle if I am honest.

Not sure bout this? I got the impression Naismith was more versatile and could play as a striker but also in the Wes role, behind the striker. Our frontman has been far too isolated in many games this seaon and often has to drop too deep to receive the ball (a la RvW <yikes>), so maybe someone who can play 'in the hole' behind, when Wes is out, would be more beneficial?

Gayle and Naismith are definitely different types of players, Gayle will run his backside off, pull the opposition defenders all over the place and chase down everything whereas Naismith can provide that link between the midfield and forwards, I think both would be good signings personally - though really hope we're not still looking at paying £8m for Naismith now that he is 29.

No, I thought that too. He'll be 6 months older, have 6 months less remaining on his contract and if Martinez is prepared to talk to the guy about his future in the game, then he's clearly pretty 'surplus to requirements' at Everton - all three of those factors should force the price down from the summer's £8m?

Plus the fact that Naismith seemed fairly happy at the prospect of joining us in August. Move Grabban on for something approaching the rumoured price and we would hardly be out of pocket.

I would go for Naismith over Gayle because of his versatility, especially as a potential goalscorer when playing as an AM. He has played wide on either side as well.

Not sure about comings but we can be sure of a few goings right? Lafferty most likely will be on his way, maybe Grabban too. Reckon there will be interest in Redmond?

Trouble is, RM, that no one is likely to go until a replacement is available.

I think we're safe with Redmond in Jan. He really needs to show how he can dominate games in the PL consistently before people are willing to pay the proper money for him and that's what we want. I genuinely think he could be an excellent player but he needs to show his potential.

You say that, but Hooper and RvW are out on loan, and Lafferty is still not getting game time. We can definitely afford to sell a striker.

Andreu, Turner, Bennett could all go too.

RvW and Turner aren't in the 25 man squad, but Hooper and Andreu will probably all stay out on loan so there are 2 possible places there. One should go to a new CB, but there is room for another striker or AM. It's possible that Elliot Bennett could come back as a WB/FB option and cover at WR. If Grabban or Lafferty move on another 1 or 2 places could be available. Then there's the question of how much money we have to spend.

    Just seen this:
    Dan O'Hagan ‏@danohagan
From what Alex Neil was saying to me yesterday in the press conference, it could be a very busy January window at Carrow Road!

From what we've seen recently, it bloody well wants to be <yikes>

Is there any quote to back that up? I'm curious if there's any indication to the number of players!

The teams playing the best attacking football this season, namely Stoke and Everton seem to have a settled creative quartet in a 4-2-3-1, and that's really helped them. In contrast we've had no real stability in that area of the pitch. It's hard enough to predict which striker is starting, never mind whether Wes, Howson, Redmond, Jarvis, Brady, etc.

Hopefully our January signings will be of sufficient quality that we can settle those 4 players, and start to attack effectively.
