We should have done better in the WC, but were worse than anyone expected. We are due that bit of luck....because that is what it will take. I will always support England, but not going to break my heart the way I used to.

Talk about being the odd team out in Pool 1!

Not sure, think Italy are certainly the odd ones out in pot 2, finalists last time out. Portugal have done very well to get a top seed.

What's the football hipsters' team of choice for this one then? Albania look pretty rubbish, but at least they got here unlike every other Southeastern country. Ukraine, Czech and Sweden all have a lot of home-based players and could be annoying to pot 1 teams in the first knockout round.

Poland are definitely the dark horses for the tournament. Any team with Robert Lewandoswki in it is going to be a threat. And they've got other good players, like that bloke from Sevilla.

I'm hoping for Russia, Hungary and Turkey. Russia and Turkey will refuse to play each other and withdraw. Hungary will refuse to play anyone from the EU who have accepted migrants. Sorted.

The NATO football team is looking pretty good. I count 18 out of 24 qualified countries in. Bring it on Vladimir*

*and Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria and Ukraine.

I'm just wondering if UEFA will step in and not allow them to be drawn in the same group.

And then tell us football is nothing to do with politics.

I don't have high hopes for Croatia in this tournament. Despite having some talented players, we have an unbalanced squad and we haven't played anything resembling modern football since 2008. We would have been great at USA '94, though.

I notice that sixteen teams go through from the group stage, which is the number strangely identical to the number of teams who qualified for the tournament in 2012. Therefore, the initial stage is basically just a qualifier. The idea is to presumably involve more teams and give them experience, such as Wales and Northern Ireland. Makes Holland's failure to qualify even more embarrassing.

That would be interesting if they did it in the leagues in England....you apply for tickets and say please make it Saints, United, Arsenal or whatever and then find you have Darlington away. Could be fun.

I am so magnanimous that I would have liked Scotland to qualify :)

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned, but it's been worked out who is 'officially' the best and worst possible draw for England. Based on the rankings, I believe.

    Best: England, Switzerland, Romania, Albania.

    Worst: England, Italy, Poland, Wales.

Albania wouldn't be here if some guy didn't kick off a riot in Belgrade. Who could want to stop fun like that?
