Michael Chopra confirms he will apply to be new Alloa manager please log in to view this image By Kenny CrawfordBBC Sport Scotland at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium Alloa chairman Mike Mulraney says he has had "dozens" of applications for the vacant manager's role since Danny Lennon resigned on Monday. The Wasps' striker Michael Chopra has confirmed he wants the job and will formally apply soon. Mulraney told BBC Scotland: "There's been an enormous response already from all over the world. "The first applications came in before midnight (on Monday), there were more before nine this morning (Tuesday)." Mulraney revealed he received even more interest in the position during the 5-0 defeat to Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup. "I took four applications since we came here tonight," he said. "One email, two agents and a call from a manager himself. "We never comment on front runners or any runners at Alloa and I think it's important to keep who's in the race very quiet, because some guys who have shown interest could be with other clubs or still playing." Mulraney added that some of the interest has been from people in "the Southern Hemisphere, Africa and Ireland". Former Newcastle, Sunderland and Cardiff striker Chopra helped save Alloa from relegation last season and now wants to do his bit from the dug-out. At 31, he would be the youngest boss in the Scottish Professional Football League if he was to be successful in his application. "Yes I'm interested," Chopra told BBC Scotland. "I want to try and help the club as much as possible. "I've worked under some good managers and learned a lot from them. I'm sure I could pass on my experience to the players I'm playing with. "I'll speak to the chairman and take it from there. "I know what gets said in the dressing room - I can see it and I hear it. I know what the lads want and I'm pretty sure I could do a good job." They must be mad even to consider him. I wouldn`t trust him with the tea money. He should apply for Newcastle. Ashley would have him sewn up for 1,000 years.
They would have to be desperate wouldn`t they? Surprised they took him on as a player unless he`s `seen the light`.
Striker coaching would be interesting...... "Remember. When your playing against your favourite team and it is harder to miss than score, always ALWAYS do the unexpected and loft the ball to your very suprised strike partner" x
Good player.... Will never forget THAT derby match! Or the one where he scored after 40 seconds of coming on as a sub
With what is going on in FIFA and this: On 4 October 2012, Chopra was one of three footballers among a group charged by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) over an investigation into "suspicious betting activity". The allegations focus on horses being laid to lose on betting exchanges. On 25 January 2013 he was found guilty of this offence and given a 10-year ban from racing by the BHA. Chopra should not, IMO, be allowed near a club never mind manage one! Corruption seems to be eating it's way through sport like an acid through steel, wash it away and the message might have an impact on others who may be tempted. Sky sports and the advertising agencies have a lot to answer for as well. We now have a nation of youngsters brainwashed into gambling with the adverts that ooze gangster mentality ( I fekin hate Ray winstone with a passion). At least Winstone, in his gambling adverts, does tell any youngsters who maybe watching a game on a Sunday afternoon that he gambles 'responsibly'......what a ****er FIFA, Sky sports, gambling, advertising agencies & dodgy characters..........all part of the same problem IMO corruption & greed
He wasn't even on the bench today against Livingston. Maybe he's injured - I wouldn't know. His credentials are that he's seen how some big name EPL managers work (and at a tiny club like Alloa, that is impressive). Also, he made a bit of a name for himself at Alloa last May by scoring the winner in the relegation play-off against Brechin City. So he does stand a chance of getting the job. If he does, I hope he can straighten himself out. But I hope he doesn't do Alloa Athletic any harm - they might be tiny, and a million miles from the Etihad, but they're nonetheless a part of the grass roots in Britain, and they can ill-afford a c*nt.
