Was in pub in Salford many years ago, when there was a big Irish navvy taking the piss out of a gay guy. The gay bloke kept asking him to shut up and leave him alone, but he kept on and on. After a while the gay bloke had enough and he jumped up and punched the navvy, knocked him spark out. The pub was in uproar.
I'm ex forces and left about 15 years ago, no connection honest. I didn't come across one gay man in my time there (pun). A friend of mine was caught kissing another girl and the way it was dealt with was by posting her to another base, they avoided the issue.

I haven't served so can only give a very watered down opinion on this. I would like to think that the key consideration is "if the situation demands do I trust this person with my life" and whilst there are many considerations in that who they like to go to bed with isn't one of them.

I agree in part. As I said I haven't served so am not going to claim my opinion is worth much and that I absolutely agree with you about. It is however a discussion which affects the country as the armed forces represent us (and are a body of which most of the country are rightly proud) and I think (just my low down opinion) that the treatment of minority groups does reflect us. I'm afraid you can only have that view entirely Comm if you happily avoid commenting on every other type of job you haven't done yourself. Which perhaps you do to be fair, I've no idea.
