Fifa man of the week: Jeffrey Webb
2012: Takes the Concacaf presidency with a dig at “improper” shamed predecessor Jack Warner. “Our past will never be repeated. I am here, we are here, because of our love for football. It is a new day for Concacaf, a new chapter. We have a great confederation that represents 540m people who rely on you and me to provide hope. We must move the clouds, and let the sunshine in.” • 2015: Pleads guilty to racketeering, fraud and money laundering; forfeits $6.7m.

    Runner-up
Webb’s Concacaf successor Alfredo Hawit – who took the job in May after Webb’s arrest, with a dig at his ethics. “We are profoundly disappointed that again Concacaf has been the victim of fraud. We’ve taken steps to maintain our operations, and to deliver on our commitments to our fans.” Hawit – charged last week with racketeering and bribery – denies wrongdoing.

Among the 16 others charged by the US Department of Justice last week:

    • Peru FA head Manuel Burga, who survived a 2006 government attempt to depose him after Sepp intervened to block it. Fifa: “We cannot allow governments to interfere in football.” Burga’s career highlight: giving his 2011 re-election victory speech while a colleague’s phone played the theme from The Godfather in the background. He denies wrongdoing.

    • Bolivia’s Carlos Chávez – still running his FA from prison while denying organised crime charges. In October Chávez sent a letter from his cell to FA colleagues warning them to respect his authority: “Only I can sign contracts and cheques.”

Other news last week: keeping it tight

£129.9m:Amount Premier League clubs paid agents in 2015, up £15m on 2014. 1:Number of Premier League clubs paying all staff the living wage in the same period

    Statement of the week

From colwynbayfc.co.uk: coverage of last month’s Show Racism the Red Card day. Club ambassador Robbie Booth: “There’s no place in football for any form of racism – it’s as simple as that.”

Evo-Stik Northern club Colwyn Bay – signing striker Shaun Tuck, two years after he was jailed for tweeting that UK mosques should be “gassed out or bombed” and Muslim children beheaded; and a year after he posted online threats calling a black man an “orangutan” and a “monkey”, adding: “I hope his families banana boat sinks” and: “If he has got kids there getting acid in there face.” Club statement:“Shaun’s actions were out of character.”

    Discipline news

Spain: Celtic de Pulianas player Rubén Gómez Bustamante – sacked last week for “trying to strike a linesman with his penis” – now banned for a year and fined €468. Officials acted due to the “impact and social significance of the gesture”; Bustamante denied wrongdoing.

As usual credit where credit is due..to the Gruniard.

Taking this way OT now. Likes.

It makes people lazy, i have done it many a time. Rather than reply to a thread or a post. Although looking at our post count, i think we do pretty well.

    But you get my drift?

Highlighting one part of that stunning roll call of honour and basic human decency

" 1 ..Number of Premier League clubs paying all staff the living wage in the same period"

And it's fecking Chelsea! One of the last clubs you would think would behave ...decently

(Fair play to them btws .. a truly shocking statistic)

Watching the Iplayer vid was eye-opening. How they have got away with such blatant criminality in the public domain is nothing short of one of the scandals of all time.

The game is the biggest it has ever been, in part because of Blatter and co, unquestionably. However, the whole point of FIFA is to utilise football to achieve some sense of social betterment. Think of all the money incorrectly channelled into lining already very rich men's pockets.
