50 years ago today, City went to Gateshead and pissed all over them (0-4) in the 2nd round of the FA Cup,only for Chelsea to beat us in a 6th round replay at B.P. just under 4 months later. Just under 3 months earlier, York City, who eventually ended up rock-bottom of the League that season, hammered us 1-4 at B.P. We ended up champs of the old Division 3 that season. Let's have a repeat of that success this season lads . http://www.11v11.com/teams/hull-city/tab/matches/season/1966 League Division 3 '65-'66 http://s201259309.websitehome.co.uk/borostatnew/data_pasttables079_196566.htm
That was on a Wednesday I see. That was because the game on the previous Sat had to be postponed because of snow. Drove up early that Sat morning only to find out that the game had been postponed. Remember driving around Catterick roundabout in a blinding blizzard. Remember it all well but always thought that it was in January, but there it is in black and white (as many things were in those days). Did not go to the re-match.
Not many visiting Gateshead would want to remember the experience WSTiger. Could have been worse, you could have been snowed-in up there for a week Looking again at the 4 League Tables in my earlier post, I couldn't find Gateshead in any of them. The passing years have obviously blurred my memory - turns out they failed to regain entry in 1960 after seeking re-election. Never managed to make it back - seems Peterborough took their place. I could have sworn that was much later. Time flies...
If my memory serves me right, we actually made it to Gateshead but after a couple of pints turned around and headed home. And yes could have been much worse, although, anywhere with the chance of meeting up with opposite sex would have been great, would have made a change from the local talent who I was having little success with. At the time I was very anxious to fraternize with young ladies since I had just arrived back from a 2.5 year stint in Malaya and Borneo, where the opportunities where limited to say the least.
