Billys anniversary on 7th. His attitude epitomised what is Leeds United. Especially for the old uns among us, here are some memories and for the younger fans, this is some of what you missed

Key phrase Billy used that separates our recent teams from The Don's teams - "There were so many captains in the side"

Who was our last great captain? Where can we find the leaders we dearly need?

Looking at that clip, it suggests that Bremner was very overated. Would not get into any Preiership teams now - would probably struggle to get into our team <ok>

Amazing how much football has evolved in such a short time!!

The game has moved on and evolved as you put it.
It's impossible to know if past greats would have made it.
But I think most world class players (and he was one) would make it in any era.

He was not only a top class player he was the most inspirational captain in British football and there aren't many teams today who would not benefit from his leadership.

Be gentle with him. He's a wally (note the deliberate lack of capial 'W' :D ), so he's never been to see a first class game of football.

Football has moved on, sports science has moved on, people are bigger, faster, stronger... The ball is lighter and the pitches even have grass on them.

All of which is completely irrelevant in whether a player is great or not... Had he been born today he would have all the 'benefits' of modern footballer.

Bremner was a great footballer. No ifs, no buts. He had energy, drive, passion, he worked hard off the ball and was skilful industrious and visionary on it. He was football writers player of the year, and well into his 30's made the pfa team of the year, the first year they did it. He'd have been in it every year had they started it earlier.

Bremner and Giles were what made that Leeds team tick and made as good a central midfield partnership as British football has ever seen.

Pele called him the best midfielder in the 1974 World Cup.

Had he been born in 1990 he would be a great footballer today.

But yeh. He's over-rated, wouldn't get in the millwall team today.

Spot on and can I add the most important ingredient missing from today's footballer, Billy played for the love of Leeds United, they all did, and would have played for nothing. Maybe someone should sit Byram down in front of that video

... reminded me of Jimmy armfield talking about paul madeley contract 'negotiations'... where Paul basically said, I'll leave the contract terms up to you... I just want to play for Leeds.

Now I'm not suggesting Sam does that Cellino. At least not without reading the small print!
