  1. Some people have the opinion that we should just sell him and get what ever we can for him now, but i disagree.

I personally think it would be worth our while keeping Enrique because, in my opinion, a season with Enrique in the team is worth a lot more than i can see us getting for him, as he's on the last year of his contract, and to be quite honest, even if we did manage to receive an ideal offer of around 15 million for him, i doubt that it would be handed over to Pardew to buy a replacement. The only left back that we could possibly get, that's even close to the quality of Enrique, defensively, is Leighton Baines, and he would cost us at least 20 million, and if you asked 1000 Newcastle fans if they could see Ashley paying 20 million for one player, an amount close to 1000 would say no, and most likely wet their pants laughing at the stupidity of the question.

Even though the scouts seem to be fond of Cheick M'beugue, or however you spell his name, i believe we should think this idea through. Toulouse have already turned down 2 bids for him, the highest believed to be around 6/7 million. His club seem to be putting their foot down firm and trying to keep a hold of him. We could end up selling Enrique for less than what we end up paying for a left back of lower quality.

In my opinion, it would be stupid to let him go now. We should wait until we have a proper replacement lined up, one that we know that will fill his boots properly, and one that we've been watching and studying for a while. We could also take next season to scout for more talent, and also to make sure we are bidding for the best possible replacement for Enrique. Shane Ferguson is a cracking young lad, but we all know that he's much more exciting and useful when attacking as a left winger. He's not the left back we need.

    Anyone else agree?

I will be angry if we accept a 7/8 million bid for him simply because "we'll lose him on a free next season". Yes, we will, but he's worth more to us now for another season, than 7/8 million, in my opinion. The loss of Enrique could cost us points, and we all know that points = pounds, and if we could have been higher in the table with Enrique in the team, that 7/8 million we accepted for Enrique could end up feeling like nothing.

Also, i'm getting a little bit frustrated with the people saying "If he truly doesn't want to be here, we should get rid - ASAP". When has he ever said that he doesn't want to be here? Yes, he said he wants to play in the champions league and win cups. He has ambition, and i do not blame him, he's a fantastic player, one of the better young left backs in the world. The game away at Blackburn pretty much sums up why he wants to leave. We all know he's a cracking left back defensively, but also, at times, his attacking play is incredible. He creates so many chances, and makes some sublime crosses and deliveries, that rarely ever get converted into goals. I think he's frustrated. He only got 3 assists last season, which showed our lack of quality upfront. If we had more the one quality striker on the team last season, his assists tally would be in the double figures.

I have no doubt he'd rather be at a Champions League club than here, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't be happy playing another season here. His two best mates, Coloccini and Jonas are here. He has said himself that if he has to stay he'll be happy to stay.

Anyway, i'm ranting a bit here, i apologize. I personally think another season with him in our team, is worth more than what we probably will be offered, if an offer does come in. Instead of worrying about the best offer we could get for him next season, we should be planning for the season ahead, with one of the worlds best young left backs in our team.

15m + offer and I think we should consider it.

If not we should sign Elokobi because he is big and hard.

    He would bang anyone.

Agree on the Ferguson point - don't think we should develop him into a LB - I see him more has a pacey tricky little winger than a defender. Not one of the biggest or strongest looking lads so I could see him getting bullied too much at LB, not enough strength unlike Jose.

  8. If we had a different owner, i would consider a 10m offer, but do you really trust Ashley to invest that cash into the team? He's hardly showing that he wants to invest anything at all into new players.

    Good article!

I'd take 12m+ but i'd say it's more important to keep him. We know he works well in the team and he'll be trying to advertise himself to future buyers if he doesn't want to be here, so either way, it's a bonus.

I believe he'll stay for next season and if he gets a Spain call up (which would be thoroughly deserved) then he'll stay on longer.

I'd rep you but i've given out too much in the last 24 hours (not that it makes much difference with rep power of 1!)

  16. Just because he'd leave on a free doesn't mean there's no cash to buy a replacement, and just because we sell a player for an enormous fee, doesn't mean that we'll have an enormous amount to spend.

We should have another season with Enrique, the best possible left back we could have at the moment. Then in that time we should scout for more talent, study and watch players, and then Pardew and the scouts can talk in detail to Ashley and the board about the best possible replacement we could make, and how much they're prepared to offer.

At the moment, there aren't any great options for a replacement that wouldn't cost a fortune.

I agree except you can clearly tell he'd rather be at a bigger club. So if he doesn't want to stay, and a decent offer comes in then goodbye. It's more important to have 11 average players pulling in the same direction than 11 individuals going their own ways

He offers us alot and with the first team line-up changing as much as it is we need the players that have already gelled and had a cple of seasons together more then anything. Unfortunately I honestly believe that Ashley will bite the hand off anyone offering 12/13m+ and imo he is worth 15m+ easily. This is because of his value in OUR team not his overall skill, we have to ask for more because we need him so much more! (In other words in a top 4 team i think he would be worth around 10m).

He was one of our consistently top players last season and I can only see him improving this season...the guy is getting towards his prime playing years! As the OP has said, he delivered some great balls into the box last season, the kind of crosses where if a player like Shearer was still around, a natural goalscorer, would have given us loads more goals.

Fergie is destined for our wing too, it would be such a shame to see him wasted at LB, only because he could probably do a good job there and then we would forget about gettin a 'replacement', Ashley would save some pennies, and we would waste his potential attacking qualities.

If this club truly has the ambition the owner and manager claim. We should be doing everythin in our power to keep players like Enrique here. Having said that, if a club comes in with a stupid bid (im talking 20+)...we should sell without hesitation and further strengthen the squad (could afford a good LB and some cover too with that kind of money)

Anyway thats just my opinion. Good article! :emoticon-0100-smile
