Yet after we shipping goals for fun, he changed it so we played more defensively and we were all pretty much much content against the big boys with only letting 1 goal at a time. On balance I would say he has got that bit organised much better although not perfect. Now lets give him a chance to sort out the other end and get a balance between the two.

I said when we got promoted that we did not have the strikers for the PL, and we still don't. I would offload both Grabban and CJ in January and get better in (easier said than done I know)

There seemed to be no game plan today. We didn't sit back like we did against the big clubs recently but we also didn't go at it. Every ball that dropped around mid way in our half was hoofed forward.

To say today was abject would be sugar coating it to be honest.

Indeed. I get the feeling that AN's brief was a little different this week as we were only playing Watford and a little less caution was required. However I also feel he didn't want them to go balls out attacking either, leaving them to play in the middle of the park. It failed for sure and was ugly as sin to watch but he'll learn (I hope)

I should add to that that I still wouldn't sack AN, I think he is a good manager. But he needs to recapture that dynamism that we had at the end of last season and for the opening games of this. It was all well and good going defensive against the big boys but we have to be able to impose our game on the teams around us and definitely on the teams that got promoted with us.

What! Sorry DH, but I can't agree with that. With a gusting, swirly wind, all we did was lump aimless high balls forward...to Grabban, hardly the most physical presence in the division! The midfield barely had a touch for an hour. I don't see that as 'tactics' against a fairly 'robust' (albeit skillful, too) Watford outfit?

Yes it was a poor performance for sure, but there haven't been many that I can think of - Southampton away, Newcastle away (although our attacking play was good that day but the defence wasn't). We were mugged by Leicester and West Brom, but the performances in those games weren't bad. I still feel that we have good players and a good manager and that we shouldn't panic after a bad performance in one game, which was proceeded by 4 good performances.

The wind didn't help, but it was the same for both teams. Watford's pressing was excellent, and the normal response to that is to get the ball forward quickly, as the opposition have committed players forward. The forward passes need to be more accurate though and in most cases they weren't. It was more about poor execution than poor tactics, IMO.

I won't argue that that isn't what it descended into, but in the first ten minutes or so when we were on top, it looked better than that. To me it felt like that's how we wanted to play, but didn't have the confidence to stick with it once behind, when thus far it hadn't penetrated a solid looking defence and individuals were struggling with the basics.

I'm struggling to come to terms with the fact that we should stick with AN if we are rooted in bottom three come the end of January as most of you on here think we ought to. For once the board should show some balls in my opinion and rather than go out and get another 'cheap' option, a la Grant, Gunn, Adams and now Neil, try and appoint an experienced manager to keep us in the Division. The dog eat dog world of top flight professional football dictates survival of the fittest. Sod the sentimental crap, if we look like getting relegated do something about it before it's too late this time McNally.
Neil may well turn our fortunes around, God I hope so but it's going to be one helluva task and right now I'm not so sure he has the experience and tactical nous to do so.

Brendan Rodgers is looking for work ;)

Part of my understands where you are coming from as every other team that find themselves in the relegation battle go out and find someone to turn it around sufficiently to avoid the drop. So to that end, yes you have got a reasonably valid point of view. I am just not convinced it is the right call (could change over the next 6 weeks I guess).

This is why the site is dying - ill thought out diatribes We have a poor squad by pl standards was always going to be a struggle - nice level of optimism prior to the start of the season but not well founded cj to get 15 goals (my arse) keep Johnson when clearly the left side has profited massively - We do need some quality if possible AN is learning and developing - would have been easy to have a few more points but alas not to be- long way to go yet but let's all be doom and gloom - this is why I can hardly ever be arsed with this site - too much unthinking bollox spouted

To be fair, we did witness the worst performance of AN's tenure yesterday.
Against - with respect, not the best opposition we'll face all season.
So it's understandable that there's some unhappiness in the camp after that charade.
But in terms of changing the coaching set up after a bad game / poor run of results...well, that's what QPHa tend to do - and look where it's got them!
I wouldn't blame a bit of discontent after a shocking performance for a lack of posts / topics, though.
It's what passionate fans do in that situation <ok>

Yeah maybe so- but taking an overview of someone's tenure makes more sense and putting it in a realistic context - seldom seems to happen in posts therefore doesn't engender debate
