Believe me, Viet Nam changed this country forever. It worries me right now if that lesson is being unlearned. Tough situation we are all in. Everyone wants these ****s dead, but what we leave behind might turn out to be far worse for years to come. Invading Iraq as evidence to the point.

I was a bemused when ministers etc were arguing civilians will be killed and no exit strategy - do nothing and ISIS - DAIS don't mind continuing killing innocent civilians or exit strategies - its not a easy war but we need to make our contribution or we look stupid imo

For some strange reason. Ive took a real interest in the viet war for over 20 years. Met loada of vets and their accounts dont sometimes match up with historical accounts..

This syria thing is like america in viet. But sadly bombed **** out of the wrong country. Saudi.

First man to get it right! The ****ing Saudi's are the evil behind all these troubles. Why the **** the world doesn't ween itself off oil and break these ****ers is beyond me. Big Oil companies and their pockets lined with politicos probably has nothing to do with it....

You think the Saudis may have fooled us all ? -I agree but the world needs green energy & fuel big time but too many other things going on.. at moment

I'm prepared for all the "lefty" "pacifist" comments that will come my way (I'm anything but, btw)...but...

I can just never get on board with a bombing campaign that we know will have civilian casualties. WW2 was different as there were literally millions of soldiers so the only way a surrender would ever be effected was by hurting civilians...this is NOT the case with ISIS. We have thousands of soldiers pissing around in barracks over here, or wandering around ****ing Canada or Kenya doing **** all, lets send them in and fight ISIS toe to toe, that's what they're getting paid for.

I know civilians will die either way...I know airstrikes is the easier option...but I don't know how people can look at the pictures of devastated fathers carrying their little girls dead body through the streets and be happy to know that it was their country that did that, no matter what the reason is.

Bin Laden's was a Saudi. His family are very influential. They don't fool me. Don't trust them. Don't trust Pakistan either.

    Neither do I.

I do know that there's never been a war without civilian casualties and that's just the way it is.

We don't need to send our troops in either. If we worked solely with the Kurdish forces, our air strikes could help them advance and push back ISIS, like has been happening in Iraq.

"How dare the USA cross into our territory to perform a military operation without telling us! We are going to take this further, do you hear me!?"

"If you do, we are going to ask more serious questions about how the world's most wanted man has lived for years a mile away from one of your large army bases."

"Oh yeah, nvm. Carry on lads, carry on."

Agreed mate but you don't have to be directly responsible for it. We are if and when we drop bombs on them. I can't get on board with that.

Fair enough mate. I'm on the other side of the fence. Don't like the thought of innocents being killed but unfortunately I know it's going to happen if we want to end this war. Don't forget ISIS are butchering innocents every day and will continue to do so unless they are wiped out.

I know that's why I said civilians will die either way.

For me, between us, surely Russia, US, Germany, UK, France have the troops to completely overwhelm them on the ground?

We are reluctant to put our own men in because of the backlash when they get killed in battle, but for me that's what we're paying them for.

No, they taught us there that the army was evil and full of dickheads. Having met you on here I'm starting to think they were right all along ;) <whistle>

Ultimately, yeah. I think you are jumping in to quick though. They have no air defences so we should keep smashing targets from the air and it's only going to benefit our allies on the ground, that we do have.

If ISIS start to take the majority of Iraq and Syria while approaching other borders, then for me, that would be the time to send in the troops. They aren't though, with the ground troops and air strikes, at worst they are being contained.

Stop sending our lads and lasses in on a whim you dick <laugh>

EDIT: poorly worded in hindsight. Want to be clear this comment didn't accurately represent my thoughts.
