Depends what you want from a song. And what you consider constitutes a good song.

Well, at the moment my favourite band is The Neighbourhood, who I understand won't be everyone's cup of tea if they listened to them but they're my favourite band. Musical taste isn't universal; I've never understood why people consider Oasis the best thing since The Beatles. Their first two albums were good but not great and they've produced some good tracks but for me they're just a bit bland and have ripped off The Beatles a lot, not in a good way. I'd still say Humbug is better than anything Oasis have ever produced. That being said, if people like Oasis that's their pejorative, just not for me. I still think The Beatles are the greatest band ever, Hendrix the greatest guitarist ever, Dylan the greatest songwriter ever and Bonham the greatest drummer ever.

Humbug is Arctic Monkeys best album.

In terms of Amercian bands, The Doors trump all for me, Nirvana not far behind.

Agree completely. I asked a friend and he said AM, Favourite Worst Nightmare then Suck It and See in that order. Just goes to show how subjective musical taste is.

To be fair, you could put them in any order, they're all pretty good. Though I would always have Suck It and See last. It's good, but just not as good as the rest of them.

By the way, are you excited for the new Last Shadow Puppets album coming out soon? Royal Blood are working on their second album as well whilst they're on tour with Foo Fighters.

Yeah, I saw that weird teaser this morning. I really liked his work with Miles Kane, I almost wish just joined Arctic Monkeys.

I went to see Foo Fighters in September with Royal Blood as the opening act. Was brill. I saw them when they supported Arctic Monkeys back in 2013 anarl.

Personally looking forward to David Bowie's new album coming out next year too.

Royal Blood are so ****ing good. I think them and Slaves and injected a bit of attitude back into British music. My only worry is that because there's only two of them, their music might get a bit repetitive if they don't add a guitarist at some point but I'm loving the drum and bass hard rock sound they've got.

Yeah, the only other band is probably Arctic Monkeys, and they've been pretty quiet for the most part since 2013.

The Libertines' return was decent, but wasn't as good as it could've been. Nowhere near as good as they used to be.

Exactly. And considering Last Shadow Puppets' new album is coming out next year, I think AM will be quiet for a bit longer as well. I wonder what sort of sound they'll go for on their next album. AM was pretty hard rock but I think they could go harder.

As someone around at the time I consider the Doors possibly the most over rated band of all time. One classic song, a couple of not bad ones, the rest nothing special. Had a charismatigc singer who was almost too good looking for lesser mortals, but he was an egomaniacvwith an over inflated opinion of himself and his abilities.
Like a few others his early death means he is probably better remembered than hecwould have been if he had lived and people had seen his increasing deterioration due to his lifestyle.
Just my opinion, though at the time I can only recall one person I know who thought much of the Doors.
Similar things could be said about Kobain's early death as well. My son was a Nirvana fanatic and having heard their stuff blasted out at the time can think of no end of better American bands.
I think the early death thing applies to a favourite of mine, Janis Joplin, as well. If she had lived she would have gradually altered as she couldn't have carried on with the raucous dtyle I enjoyed and would have become increasingly mainstream.
All about personal opinions of course. The important thing is what you get enjoyment from listening to.

I think that they'll probably get a bit more like Queens of the Stone Age. Not that I'm complaining.

I would love to see them go back and do more Humbug stuff though.

I hope so. I think Homme will have had a big influence on them. The R U Mine? b-side, Electricity, reminded me of Humbug a little. I've already mentioned them on this forum previously but Dark Stares are pretty good as well. Sound a bit like a Muse-AM-era Arctic Monkeys hybrid.

I would say Radiohead are better pretenders to the Beatles throne than Oasis. Mainly in the way they've paralleled each other in terms of musical progression. The Beatles of course are still a millions times better.
