It's a semi decent deal but the problem is that Sky will only usually give that discounted rate for six months if you sign up to a 12 month contract, which will still see you paying the best part of £600 for the full years subs, and if you then don't cancel you'll be paying in excess of £700 for the pleasure of the next 12 months.

Nah, as I said in my original post, **** Sky, I'll stick to my open box that gives me every Sky channel with record facility, along with streaming free HD movies on my smart TV from streaming companies like afdah.org.

    Did I mention, **** Sky?

So many options nowadays to get access to almost anything for free.

I still have SKY but only the entertainment package to access the terrestrial channels. It was cheaper to phone SKY and haggle with them to reduce the price rather than cancel and get an ariel installed to watch Freeview HD.

As long as you have a smart TV and a decent internet connection, there are various ways to download and then stream virtually any movie/TV show to your main TV in near full HD.

Plex and Kodi are the main tools to do this.

I bought an Amazon fire tablet for 34.99 in the Black Friday sale. Out of the box, it's pretty **** but a few quick searches on youtube show you how to:
    - Remove ads lock screen
    - Load Google Play
    - Load TVMC (pre-built KODI)
    - Load an ad-free app called ShowBox.

Ridiculous that I can be watching the latest episodes of Walking Dead and/or the Hull City/Man City game on a device that cost less than half a tank of petrol.

How long before the price goes back up again though?

Sky's next trick will be to convince you that you need a new box so that you can record 8 live programmes all at the same time. Or press the pause button on a TV in one room and carry on watching the programme on another TV when you un-pause.

Sky will probably not exist in 10 years time.

It's half price for the whole year contract. They Usually get close to the same deal for the second year and then stiff you after two years.

And I get the BT sports HD channels direct into the box, via having their broadband.

I can't be doing with hunting for streams. I like my sport and I like it on my tv reliably.

Every three years or so when they won't discount enough I leave and sign up again in he wife's name. Etc. Etc. There are always half price new customer deals.

There's threads on Digital Spy about what you get when you cancel or threaten to cancel. From them it seems unpredictable. Sky don't by any means consistently offer the same deal.

Yeah I get all of the Sky and BT sports channels for free on my open box, and there's no searching needed, there's an electronic program guide, exactly the same as Sky's, the only time that I need to use a stream is when we're on something like Bein, which is the same as yourself.

Binned my Sky Sports and Movies, also got rid of free landline calls, as I rarely use them. Now got basic Sky TV for 10 months, landline rental and unlimited WiFi @ £45/month for 10 months, then 2 months @ £60 - then a new deal.

Bought a 4K M8s Quad Core Android 4.4 Smart TV Box KODI XBMC (KODI) Full Loaded 2GB+8GB. £36.60.

Will use this tutorial to load what I want in up to date apps.

Any thoughts, as it arrives next week (free p&p, so snail mail!!) - has anyone used it to good effect as it comes, without customization, as is done in the video?

I am going to detail my experience so I can assist family + friends, so if anyone is interested give me a nudge.

I’ve got a Quadro II android box, which seems a similar device.
Generally speaking they're good. For example I watched City on Tuesday night on a crystal clear stream via the WSS sports app. Saturday afternoon’s you get full coverage of the live Prem games, and I usually watch via Phoenix TV for best quality.
Struggled a bit with buffering when we were on the other Saturday v Bristol City for some reason, and sometimes on a Sunday afternoon you have to search around a bit to find the best stream.
Movies, tv shows etc.. very good

I cancelled Sky & BT Sports about 3 months ago and haven’t missed it. - I wouldn't even bother with basic sky tv if I were you, as anything that you can get on there will be available on your android box

I have the Beast build installed on one of my MX boxes, works brilliantly, once you've configured the 1 channel IP address.
Just installed the minecraft build on the lads box, works great.
Have my own build on the other boxes, all work great.
    Theres so many options!

If City get back in the Premier League I will probably take the £26 per 6 month subscription to Arena Sports, gives you much better quality streams to the live games with a much more stable stream so that will eliminate any buffering issues.

Anybody with BT Sport and Sky, I just cancelled the full package BT Sport (24 quid) after the 12 months and when you ring them to cancel reject the first offer they give you, they will tell you they are going to consult with a manager then offer you it for 9 quid for 12 months. I still turned it down anyway as only really want to follow us in future plus see the golf and cricket and Sky does that already got a half price deal with them too. In an ideal world I would just use streams but my internet is useless so it gets too annoying sorting that out, also I tend to find that when you find a decent site or set-up for streaming it gets taken down after a bit so it's constant fannying around
