I have accepted that Newcastle United are a shambles currently and that no matter who takes charge, the club will be relegated this season. My question to you is simple, once all the lack-lustre 'dead-wood' has been removed, post-relegation, do you think the Toon can get back at the first attempt? Chris Hughton anyone?
I don't think CH will come back to us. He was treated shoddily by Mike and in a man of principle. I reckon we will stay down in the Championship for at least 2 seasons. It will take a little longer to regroup than last time as we don't/won't have a British backbone...
If we go down we will stay down for a long time. We had the bones of a squad filled with character and a fighting spirit last time. We don't have any of that now. We will be competing with clubs who have that backbone - as well as with clubs who are already spending over the odds wanting to secure promotion. Would Ashley be willing to spend over the odds to get promotion? Probably not.
I would say no. However it would largely depend if we could replace all the departees with the right type of players and get a manager in who knew his way out. I think we probably would being honest. No guarantees though as its a competitive league.
Relegation would mean throwing out the deadwood at long last so I would love us to build around our young and hungry younger players and I reckon Lascalles and Dummett would be stalwart at the back in the championship
Really, why? Tufty is quoted on the BBC as saying "Nobody is happy at this club", pretty much screwed when the manager is going into a we're all ****ing doomed mode.
Ultimately because, and I don't expect everyone will agree, there are 3 teams worse than us. We are bad but there is worse out there. Also, I do think Cashley will buy in January. Possibly one or two. The type who will come then I expect more grit from and more fight as the prima donnas won't be interested in coming. We should know by end of February 2016 as to how close it will be. I do think McLaren is a good coach and was screwed over in the Summer as we didn't get the players we needed. In particular Austin and another centre back. Also, I am generally an optimist ...with a masochistic streak.
I don't actually think there are three teams worse than us at the moment. There may be 3 teams who theoretically have less quality in their players but at least the players they have are willing to fight for their cause and the manager sets them up to try and stop the opposition scoring. We don't seem to have either of those attributes at the moment. Of all the teams down the bottom I think we are the worst set-up to fight a relegation battle and I am seriously worried that we have now been pulled into the relegation vortex and are not going to get out. I would class Aston Villa as in a similar, possibly worse, predicament but not the others. They are prepared to graft. I agree that the saving grace might be Ashley putting up funds to try and protect his investment but these still have to be wisely spent. We were tonked 5-1 by Palace last week, less than a week after Sunderland had frustrated them by being strong defensively and ultimately took the 3 points. I am sure some people will say Palace were crap when they played Sunderland but if you give a team space and they can create chances they build confidence and play better. it seems to be coming a habit of ours.
Ha'way lads.... Why the doom & gloom?.... It's not even Christmas !?!? Start worrying when you are dead and buried in April.... And then get DiCanio, Gus or Dick in It ALWAYS works for us
If we do go down I think we will struggle to even make an impact in the Championship next season. We really are piss poor and have been for a very long time now. By rights we should have gone down last term, and if we had do you think we would be dominating the Championship this season? Not a ****ing chance. The almost inevitable drubbing by Liverpool this Sunday will just push us one step closer to the trap door. Where can anybody realistically see our next win coming from? Going into every season hoping that there are three worse teams worse than yourselves is a poor business model, but one that Ashley and Penfold seem to be rigidly sticking to. What the **** has happened to this club? Its an absolute ****ing shambles from top to bottom and that ****ing leech Ashley is entirely to blame. From Dennis 'Little Hitler' Wise to JFK (twice) to re-naming the stadium, to treating Houghton like dog ****, to sticking his tacky branding on every conceivable surface.................... the list just goes on and on. Whilst that arsehole owns our club will we always be an extension of his 'pile em high, sell em cheap' empire. We are just another shop window for him. He gives not one **** about the club, the fans, the history, the passion, the pain........... not one ****.
I'm tempted to say we'd stay down for a few years, but the truth is we would walk the Championship because it is a **** league and we could buy our way out of it. It would need some carefully planned out player trading, but **** Prem players like Thauvin and Anita would stand out like superstars in the Championship. Last time we went down just about every NUFC fan said the same thing that we'd stay down and even get relegated again. It was a walk in the park.
If we are relegated this season we will not bounce straight back up. As others have quite rightly said, we do not have the required backbone to do it. Just watch those who can jump like fleas from this sinking ship without giving a single glance backwards and with no sense of responsibility for the mess we are in. Those that remain will do so only because they have no other choice. They are the dregs and that is why we will not only be relegated but stay down for quite some time to come.
Best way of not having to bounce straight back up is not going down in the first place. 25 games to go so all not yet lost. We're looking better under Big Sam, but I'm not counting chickens yet...
