http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34985168 Gary Neville steps into management and steps down from Sky Sports position. One of the names I had considered for us, although he'd be too smart to come into Ashley world of pain. He will do well I think.
I used to hate him as a player, but as a pundit he's one of the very few that are bang on pretty much all of the time. I think he'll do well.
He was the sort of player that every fan hated - except Man United fans. We could do with some hated players like that again!
Neville aside. Anyone watching the Southampton Liverpool match. The intensity and quality of both sides (yes I know it's 5-1 but Liverpool have been ruthless) is streets above us. Our players are really slow compared to these players.
If McClaren gets sacked, or 'moved upstairs'... who's available that would sort your mess out and get your current squad playing well enough to stay up?
I pity anyone taking on this set of split peas. Its difficult to judge McClaren based on what he has been given. I suppose there is no getting away from the fact he is fairing worse than Pardew despite having a better squad however. Honestly I'm not sure who would take it on. I suppose the window makes it ever so slightly more attractive if given money. Its not like we are cut adrift so survival is doable...at the minute.
Moyes needs to rebuild his career. So miler club to Everton. Rodgers would be wholly the wrang candidatet
I don't think there's any point whatsoever in replacing mclaren because we will just hire someone of similar ilk.
Well given he had us on a higher total at the same stage last year with a worse squad, I think you'd have to say almost certainly yes on all known evidence. Every season is different though and you have to consider if some players have improved or got worse.
Oh ok, I didn't realise you were on a position where you had the luxury of being able to pick and choose
As a fan that's pretty much what you are tasked with surely? Would you rather watch long play ugly football in the PL, being barely entertained and finishing 13th. Or would you rather watch good quality passing football in League 2 being royally entertained? As a supporter I want the best for my team and want them to win. First and foremost though I want to watch my team putting in the effort and trying to entertain me by playing football properly. I support them either way but I prefer being entertained. The PL is not the be all and end all. I remember having Fat Sam as manager. Depressing and nothing to do with football.
But that's the thing, long ball doesn't equal boring and passing football doesn't mean entertainment. Look at pep era barca, some of the most boring defensive football I've ever seen. Playing percentages and having a big target man upfront with plenty of service is easy to rally behind, every ball in there is a chance something will happen, for example. Don't give me this pretentious "Newcastle way" or "West Ham way" ****e. There is a quote I can't remember who by "it's not about the short ball, it's not about the long ball, its about the right ball" or words to that effect.
