I remember going to MIllmoor under Hateley (I think) and - if memory serves me right - we were really ****e and 4-1 down and then all of a sudden Glynn Hodges (remember him?) realised he was a very talented footballer (for that level) and absolutely tore them a new 'un as we got it back to 4-3. Sadly time ran out, we still lost and it was probably the only decent game Hodges ever had for us. I also got tickets for this game and will be using it to prematurely celebrate my 40th birthday before I bugger off to Bangkok on the Monday for the actual celebrations and then the islands for Christmas and new year.
I remember us losing a Christmas fixture at Millmoor 5-4, I think it was '97 so must have been Hateley - they hammered us at home same season/season before, it was either four or five one ............ they had a huge centre forward, who's name I can't recall, who battered us everytime he played against us, it's hard to believe we have fans moaning about being 4th in The Championship! Edit -- Leo Fortune-West ........ what an animal!
Surely Blame one JAMES MOONEY. Does this dept. not come under his remit still ? If it does you have the answer. Loony Mooney is way too busy being self important and polishing his ego.
You know, at first i thought it was 5-1 and then finished 5-4 but I seemed to remember singing "we're gonna win 5-4" jokingly and then actually meaning it! It was a good game though, we were rampant at one stage.
Went in the pub near the ground. Landlady heard me mention my intense dislike of Wednesday. She regarded Rotherham folk who supported Wednesday with the same sort of contempt we look on Hull and East Yorkshire people who support Leeds. Kept bringing a pint for me as she passed by clearing tables.
Oh yeah. Duh. Really good penalties that day by both sides. Even the one that missed was a good firm strike bit hit the bar.
Pretty sure Dewhurst had a chance to equalise for 5-5 too. Used to love going to Millmoor – the terracing under that roof – really spoilt it when they made it all seater.
