  1. Owen would argue that the fans never appreciated him in the same way they did Fowler or Torres later yet he scored just as often.

Owen has said he tried to force the move to Liverpool but it was either got o Newcastle or continue to sit on Real's bench. It was a world cup year too so he wanted to play to ensure his England place.

As for Man Utd, I didn't like it and won't ever agree to it but I can understand why. He had a choice of Stoke, Everton or Man Utd, only one of them offered him a chance of winning something and that something was a PL title, a medal he'd not got or really been that close too.

I think Owen is a knob. I agree his heart was never really at Liverpool. But I won't accept the **** reasons people put forward. In all instances there is more than one side to the story, Owen is just involved in a lot of situations.

  2. It wasn't just Liverpool fans Sterling pissed off with his actions though, it was the footballing community as a whole. He got boo'd by fans around the country at first. Granted, it will last longer with Liverpool fans but time will sort it out in the end.

PS...although Man Utd still hate Paul Ince <whistle>

  3. Opted to keep him and sell him cheaply then.

If they wanted more money, he should have been should the year before. Waiting that year saw the club get much more money than what they would have got selling him with two years left though.

How fans react to ex-players is down to the individual set of supporters. They're the closest to it and they're the ones who are directly affected by it, therefore they'll react in the way that they see fit.

Nick Barmby was still getting dogs abuse from us, until the day he hung his boots up. Some wounds never heal........

I know how balanced you are in arguments but honestly you're the first and only LFC fan I know who has this view. I'm not talking about love him or hate him or Judas/not Judas - I'm talking about the manipulation and moves. He showed a complete lack of integrity with every move.

  7. I never said he didn't. I'm saying you can't put 100% of the blame in Owen's corner. The club knew what was happening and should have dealt with it. If he wasn't willing to sign a new contract then they make a decision; sell or risk losing him for nothing or very little. Liverpool chose to do the latter, in the end it worked out because he helped us get CL football. We then won the CL as a result too.

I hope no-one on here thinks Stoke are easy. **** no, and they have Bojan back and Shaqiri now since we played them four months ago. And that awkward B/S yard dog Walters has signed a new contract and will be settled - ****er always scores against us. But it's the semis now - it shouldn't be easy.

I think you've just made that up, <whistle>

The other thing you're saying about selling him 2 years earlier, I just don't get. He was settled and happy, comes to renewal talks and he won't sign, how could the club have possibly foreseen that?

  10. To me, our fans always swallow the LFC stories 100%. It happened with Owen, Torres, Mascherano, Sterling, etc. That will always be the case BUT there is always another side to a story.

There were also stories about Fowler leaving the first time. Fowler since wrote a book about it telling his side of the story. Who do you believe, Houllier? The club (which would have been Houllier lead at the time)? Fowler?

He's not - I have always said it too. Owen gave us his best years and left with the club in a sort of crisis with the new manager just appointed. Gerrard was angling for a move after the 2004 Euros too - people forget that. So he's no legend, in my opinion, but he certainly gave more Fowler - and he wasn't a horrible gobshite to boot.

Oh I think you absolutely can and I'm someone who always gives the benefit of the doubt.

What time scales have you got in mind when you're talking about the club should have dealt with it , it was a bolt from the blue.

  13. What's not to get? A player as two years left, they negotiate a new deal to avoid possibly losing a player for free or very little. If the player refuses to sign, the club makes a decision.

See RvP and Man Utd / Arsenal for more details; Arsenal didn't want to sell to a rival but they would have got **** all had they refused to sell because RvP was refusing to re-sign.

Liverpool opted to keep Owen for another year in the hope that (a) he'd sign a deal eventually and (b) he'd help get the club back into the CL.

Rafa has said Owen showed no intention of staying at Liverpool from the moment he met with him. Clearly Owen had made his mind up that he was leaving, there is little doubt in my mind that he wanted to follow McManaman's route and leave on a Bosman. The club should have dealt with it better IF they wanted more money for him.

  14. How was it possibly a bolt from the blue? He had a contract that was running out!

    :1980_boogie_down: was gonna say that:emoticon-0183-swear
also the fact he turned to complete and utter dogshite after leaving us deffo helped soothe the blow imo :emoticon-0102-bigsm

times are exciting, only 3 games away from klopps 1st trophy with us, buzzing this morning (eu natural buzzing) the most pleasing aspect of the game in hindsight was how we reacted to going a goal down and not playing well at all to winning 6-1, these kind of results really bring confidence to a side, thats a few games now where we have not been near our best and the results keep coming good:emoticon-0137-clapp

lets not forget mr klopp has jan to reinforce and improve upon certain positions so very exciting few months ahead, taking all comps seriously in contrast to rodgers playing 2nd teams in many comps including the cl and not forgetting the real madrid farce<doh>

rivals be sweating like peedos in a playground <badger><badger>

We get back our short term injured players and with the team we had out yesterday along with those on the bench, do we need to buy for the sake of buying?
Think the plan going forward is to bring in quality not quantity, if the players aren't there in Jan I'd rather not waste the money..
Lets be honest, we're not winning the league but a top 4 push is possible and maybe go far in a few cup comps.. that'll do for the first season..

yes i agree, i wasnt suggesting we go and buy players for the sake of it (spurs) just saying that klopp, doing very well so far, does have that option to improve either the 1st team or the squad in general so its exciting times.

plus can we not recall a few like markovic and balotelli (joke **** balo) in january.

i havent heard us linked with anyone seriously anyway, this could be a sign that klopp is rather "wengerish" in his transfer dealings in terms of keeping it in house. if so im certainly not complaining anyway

I agree, we shouldn't buy in January unless someone we want anyway is available.

I'd take Markovic back if we could..
    Mario... erm... well... NO! :D
He doesn't appear to give much away, he feeds the press (and us) the odd sound bite, because he knows we love that sort of ****e..
Whilst he keeps the important stuff to himself!
