Don't agree. Lallana gave years of his career to you guys and took an opportunity to take a step up (no offence intended) when Liverpool came along. The way it happened (saying he was staying etc) was unfortunate but these things happen. Maybe Liverpool took a step back and he didn't think the deal would happen? I've no idea. Lovren was with you a short time and threatened to strike. It doesn't matter which club they were playing for at the time, that is unacceptable imo. I wasn't keen on signing him anyway (far too expensive) but I 100% didn't want us to get him him a threat like that. I have no doubt he'd do the same to us if something better came along.
I agree with that and no real fan will begrudge a player that wants to move on to better themselves as you have to know where you are in the pyramid. As ever it's how you go about it, him playing along with all the 'Mr Southampton' bollocks and saying if he was offered the chance to end his career here he would of "snapped your hand off" - Also the comments about saying when he was playing against you he was dreaming of playing for you. Excuse me? What sort of ****ing captain is that? Dreaming of playing for the opposition? He also reportedly said he would never play for the club again which forced us to sell. The thing is, as I said above, there is a way of going about leaving and none of Lallana and Lovren done it in the right way but to be fair to Lovren, he had probably never even heard of Southampton until we bid for him so he had no loyalty to us in the first place. Whereas I feel that Lallana after 14 odd years and us supporting him through his heart ops etc. that he should of treated the club with a bit more respect. It was very telling that Summer that the announcements on the OS for Shaw/Lambert had a few paragraphs detail of when joined the club, (age in case of Shaw) when they made debuts, how many appearances etc. Whereas Lallana didn't get any of that, despite being with the club for so long? To me that confirmed that he really pissed people off behind the scenes. Luke Shaw who played for 2 seasons in first team is more worthy of that than what Adam was? For comparison: Lallana - http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/01072014-adam-lallana-joins-liverpool-1708952.aspx Shaw - http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/arti...uke-shaw-joins-manchester-united-1696489.aspx That says it all to me Also it's easy to say we should be supportive cos he did a lot for the club, Yeah I remember how supportive you lot were for Gerrard when he wanted to go to Chelsea months after inspiring you to the European Cup
18 months on - come on. I said last season I fully understood how saints fans felt - we've been in the situation numerous times. As fans it hurts. But now it just looks a bit sad. It's not as if he was their best player [unlike when it's happened to us] - and none of us wanted him anyway
That wasn't everyone though was it? Certainly wasn't me. The better examples for you to give would have been Torres or Mascherano. Both forced deals through in a ****ish way. At the time, I was really pissed off with both but in hindsight, they were both playing for us through a bad time (some of it under Woy ****ing Hodgson) and there was **** going off behind the scenes too.
Exactly. Making out it's petty or small time, is nads. If a player leaves in a way that the fans perceive to be disrespectful to the club, then he'll get the bird every time he comes back to that ground. It'll get less over time, but there'll always be a reminder of the feelings towards him. We still give Lescott dogs abuse, because he acted like a ****. I'd imagine Sterling will get the same treatment for years to come at Anfield as well.
To be fair mate, I was just ****ing about with that last bit, took me ages to type that post out and you focus on the last bit I was just making the point that Lovren didn't really owe us anything, whereas Lallana should of treated the club with respect and it's clear from the above links that he didn't at all.
Exactly It will soften up once they come to St Marys and lose...not sure when that's gonna happen though
I never jeered Torres. I've never hated Torres either. I don't think it's fair to him tbh. It's not like he forced us to take peanuts for him like Owen. We got £50 half of which was spent covered Suarez.
Absolutely not! And I don't remember there being anything other than a few boos as he warmed up for the first game after he left us. And there's this -
I just dislike players that show no affection to a club like Lovren did. A player staying for two or three years and moving on is perfectly acceptable so long as they do it in the right way. You guys gave Lovren a chance to jump start his career and then he **** on you at the first opportunity. He's a **** imo, much like Suarez was a ****.
Owen didn't either. I blame the club for not sorting it out (one way or the other) sooner. Plus we got £8m and Nunez for Owen so he didn't do a "McManaman" did he? I never had a issue with Macca either tbf though
I wasn't talking about us as individuals. I never agree with jeering players but **** happens. Torres got dogs abuse whenever he came to Anfield. Even Agger smashed him in his first game against us! As i said earlier, time is a great healer (but not for all)
I don't know, it's a profession to them at the end of the day, and for foreign players we're just seen as a good step into the PL given our reputation for developing talent. Both Wanyama and Mane will most likely be off come the Summer, when Mane joined he pretty much said as much that it was a good move for him to get into the PL. As I said earlier, Lovren probably had never heard of Southampton FC until we were in for him, why would he then just to not 'progess his career' out of some loyalty to us?
The club were forced to sell Owen because he wouldn't sign a new contract which meant he would go on a Bosman if they didn't try and get something for him - £8m was a steal. No issue with McManaman either other than it wasn't the right thing to do - I remember all the songs about Owen and McManaman as well ....... oh wait ..
Fair point but why threaten to strike? If he didn't plan on sticking around should an opportunity arise, why not just ask for a release clause in the contract, that way you don't need to be a **** to get your move. I don't mind players using clubs as stepping stones, Suarez did it with us; he made it clear when he joined that he wanted to play for Real or Barca.
When they sign their long term contracts they have to accept the wishes of their employer for the length of that contract These days that appears to have been forgotten and player like Lovren talk about striking, violation of human rights (lol) etc etc in order to try and force their employers hand, and get the pay day they want (and lets be right the glory comes second to the cash with most of them), that's what pisses fans off. If a club receives an offer for a player and willingly accepts it, then the player isn't going to be viewed in the same way. It's a win / win for player and club. It's when it gets messy that the animosity builds.
