Apologies to Chilco, Vin and JWP that I didn't make the pub. Awful journey and just went straight to ground.

Should have just gone straight home :(

Yes, thought I'd missed you as I dashed off early to meet Dave's friends. Good to meet JWP!

I'm undecided on the best team for Villa. Obviously Caulker is dropped now. Yoshida should have been playing instead. It's a mystery as to why Yoshida didn't play over Caulker. He's supposed to be our nailed on third choice centre back.

Fonte comes in for Caulker if 100%. Otherwise Yoshida starts. The other change I'd make is to drop Clasie. He looks off the pace still. I'd be tempted to play Davis DM and JWP ACM. Romeu DM and Davis ACM is another good option as our confidence is so low at the moment. We need to control the tempo of the game better. We want to be dominating possession against a team like Villa at home. I expect us to bounce back with a win.

That was a really big chance. Shame he didn't put that one away. Caulker was woeful. You will also see on the replays that Stekelenburg had to keep some of those out.

I missed the game. Sounds like it was a close one, and Liverpool just got the bounces.

Difficult live at the game to judge if he should have saved any and I'm not sure I can stomach the low-lights.

I wouldn't play Davis at DM. He lacks positional discipline when plays there. Better further advanced. JWP has proved he can play the position well. For sturdiness, I'd play Romeu and Wanyama and bring on a hungry JWP second half.

What a brilliant night to bring my university mates to St. Mary's for the first time... :(

Missed Sadio's goal (huge queues outside) and proceeded to watch Liverpool hit us for six in the worst performance I've seen myself in years.

Ah well. Didn't watch as it was 5am KO for me. **** happens. Maybe we needed a massive spanking on the arse to wake us up. All will be good. Are there any more cup competitions this season?

I think it's still yet to hit me this loss.

I get that teams have bad days and that **** happens in football but this felt different. It feels like there is some higher power sticking a great big middle finger at Southampton FC whenever we play a rival. I know we haven't had great form but this came out of nowhere. It's not what happened it's who bloody did it!

Morning all - (thought I should omit 'good') away with the family for a long weekend break so missed the game and am in total shock at the result. Not read the thread yet (trying to enjoy my breakfast). Must have been an awful game to attend; what appears to have been debacle from the result. Having watched nearly all the games this season (unlike last season) has a feeling before this game that we seem not to 'marched on'; somewhat stagnated and our immediate rivals have improved. This is not meant as a 'doom and gloom' statement, but seems to me that to maintain or an improved league position from last year is looking unlikely.

Mornings to all. Dreadful; night not helped by the fact that Mrs L's brothers are all Liverpool fans who live in London and have never been to a game. Embarassing scoreline but Saturday is another day. Thrash Villa finish top6 and win the FA Cup. Job done!

I've just watched the goals. Cedric is as much at fault for the second as Caulker (who had no idea where Sturridge was), but the fourth goal.... Why is Caulker 5 metres behind the other defenders and even then seems to make little effort to close Origi? He then stood way too far off the winger for the 6th as he did Sturridge for the 1st.

Having seen them now, I agree it looks like Stekkers could have done a better with some of those.

Morning FLT; do we know why Caulker selected ahead of Maya? Was he injured?

Ron read the forums and Maya had been given too much stick :)

Not sure Romsey. I hope that doesn't happen again.

Well one thing for sure, we've all be part of Southampton Football Club history. The most goals ever conceded at home by a Southampton team in a competitive game. Perhaps the players and manager can put that on their CVs :emoticon-0100-smile

Stoke 3-6, Plymouth 0-6, Brentford 0-6 and Tottenham Hotspur 2-6 (aet).

Still I did see Saints win the FA Cup (actually there too :emoticon-0105-wink:) I don't think any of us will be seeing that again.

Ho hum as it ever was....

Confused by the amount of people who want to see Romeu and Wanyama together next match, when for the game against Man City that combination was somehow considered madness from Ronald (with hindsight of course) - and that was against City, not Villa.
