An owner with no ambition sitting on a substantial asset raking in the money, selling players as soon as they can show a profit and quite content for the club to be mediocre also rans.
We were in League One with a 10 point deduction when Markus Liebherr bought the club. We've lost a cup game 6-1. Right now we're 10th in the Premier League. At no point were Newcastle in such a dire position. They are also currently 19th in the league. I don't think one bad result warrants this much of an over-reaction. In the summer we off-loaded Schneiderlin, Clyne and Mayuka. We brought in Van Dijk, Clasie, Romeu, Soares, Juanmi, Martina, Stekelenburg on loan, Caulker on loan. We will do more business in January. You're being unfair.
Jese lads relax...We had a few bad games this time last year and we bounced back...we'll bounce back again, starting Saturday. Keep the faith!
I'd really like to see your team. I imagine it must be Caulker centre back, Yoshida right back, Romeu DM, Tadic on the right if you disagree with me about what I've been posting recently.
You have both missed the point entirely and your response does not counter my argument. We are devoid of ambition since Cortese left and Katerina has not and will not match his ambition. The players know this and it is why they have left in droves and I am afraid that Mane and Victor will be gone at the end of the season and I wouldn't be surprised to see VVD pushing for a move as well. It was this very point that Ron was alluding to in his press conference today. Next season we will not be just another Newcastle we will be just another Aston Villa.
We got to a certain point and the players got extremely greedy. They wanted to play for 'big' clubs and get Champions League football. They didn't want to wait a couple of seasons. They wanted it immediately and were happy to force their way out. I don't think you can blame the owner that these players saw the club as a stepping stone. We tried to keep Schneiderlin for as long as we could. You can't expect them to run the risk of letting extremely valuable players go on a free. Katharina Leibherr owes us nothing considering where we were when her father bought the club. And as I mentioned we have still be trying to build a decent squad and have made plenty of signings since then.
A drunk man who smelled like beer sat down on a subway next to a priest. The man's tie was stained, his face was plastered with red lipstick, and a half-empty bottle of gin was sticking out of his torn coat pocket. He opened his newspaper and began reading. After a few minutes the man turned to the priest and asked, 'Say Father, what causes arthritis?' The priest replies, 'My Son, it's caused by loose living, being with cheap, wicked women, too much alcohol, contempt for your fellow man, sleeping around with prostitutes and lack of a bath!' The drunk muttered in response, 'Well, I'll be damned,' then returned to his paper. The priest, thinking about what he had said, nudged the man and apologized. 'I'm very sorry. I didn't mean to come on so strong. How long have you had arthritis?' The drunk answered, 'I don't have it, Father. I was just reading here that the Pope does.' MORAL: Make sure you understand the question before offering the answer.
I don't think you are as bad as the Toon, not just yet. However, I do think that Koeman is suffering from a touch of Michael Laudrup-itis. Let me explain. There was that season when Laudrup had Swansea flying. Everyone was claiming that Laudrup was going to manage Real or United. The Swansea fans had proclaimed him as the risen Christ, because Swansea over-achieved for one season, before settling down to their usual relegation battle. See where I'm heading with this, lads? Last season, you Saints boys were rubbing your todgers, and giving it large on the Spurs page, about how Saints had usurped Spurs' place in the top 4 or 5. By the time we hit the New Year, your dream was over, of course. That didn't stop the more hardened idiotic among you, though, and the bragging continued regardless of the fact that it was already becoming clear that Koeman wasn't even as good as Laudrup at his worst! And to think that there were some Spurs fans who actually wanted Koeman instead of Poch! I bet you boys would give anything to have Poch back, now, wouldn't you! Mind you, I bet you'd let a tramp shag your mum to have Hoddle back, at this rate! But, hey! That's football, lads!
We're not Newcastle, no. But we may need to come to grips with the fact that a repeat of last year is not on the cards in the near future.
In a word Godders, no. Saints have reinvested large amounts of transfer money raised from player sales back into the squad, have put money into infrastructure and have a plan that involves continual improvement and stability. Just because we're having a rocky few weeks does not make us remotely like Toon. I rather suspect that you're just fishing for reactions Godders, as I don't think that even you believe we're like Newcastle...are you getting paid per visit to this thread? ;-)
What he, and Koeman, are getting at is that the landscape has changed. It's evident that we are well run, better than a great many other clubs in the PL, but we're going to have to change our approach in the summer; merely reinvesting most of the money received from selling our best players likely isn't going to be good enough if we aim to be at least a top ten side. And it's clearly not going to be good enough if we aim to convince our players (and manager) that we're serious about higher aspirations.

[/QUOTE] :-D HIAG, you do make me chuckle. Spurs haven't got a place in the top 4 or 5. If you ever do get near there, it's just keeping the seat warm for Manure until they sort themselves out. Begging for scraps around the feet of those dining does not constitute a seat at the top table. Better hope your Mr Kane doesn't damage himself because without him Spuds would be bang average again. Poch was good for us, had done well for you, and will do even better when he jumps ship again to a Champions league team abroad But hey, that's football
