Raft of Sunderland players fighting for new deals by Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has a raft of players coming off contract in June. The Evening Chronicle says those players who are out of contract at the end of the season will be hoping to impress in the next few weeks, so they aren't sacrificed to make room for any new arrivals. Those hoping for a new deal include Danny Graham, Adam Johnson, Steven Fletcher, Wes Brown and Valentin Roberge. Allardyce has confirmed he plans to be active in next month's transfer window. they can **** right off, the ****ers only show to play when they want a new contract
I'd only keep Fletcher from that lot. Johnson obviously has ability but he's an arsehole and I doubt he's a good influence off the pitch. We can do better than him and I imagine his wages aren't small either.
Any contract renewals have to come with wage cuts. So in principle I don't object to Fletch and AJ getting a new one, providing the wage matches the ability. That way they become salable assets and we can recoup a fee. If they won't take significant wage cuts they can both hop it. The others? No chance.
I reckon It'd cost £8m + fairly substantial wages to replace AJ. So it's a bit "catch 22". Not s say as it sounds I don't think.mfletcher wouldn't be cheap to replace either so a wage cut may bad something to look at. The rest (barring Roberge who was no worse than Coates in his few first team appearances), wouldn't cost much to replace
Disagree. If we could get someone who buys in to SA's philosophy and was not such a fekin ass off of the pitch then go for it. On the other hand, if SA can persuade AJ that the Sunderland fans don't own him a living and that he has to get out there and graft, then keep him; a decent footballer, seemingly Lacking tact and brain cells. Aka most footballers in the premier league
The AJ question may yet be decided by the courts, so that one can wait. Fletch is a definite keep for me. His injuries have held him back more than attitude problems and he's quality IMHO. Wes Brown is too injury-prone these days and I can't say I'm too fussed about the other two. TBH, we have to be buying better if we want to avoid the perennial relegation scrap...
Aj - on about 10k a week 2 year deal take it or leave it. Doubt they will be many suitors fletcher - one swallow doesn't make a summer feck him off unless he wants 10k 2 years. Brown - Maybe a coaching role?
Agree totally with that. But the problem, as I see it, is the guy who bought in Fer (nearly), Lens, Coates, Toivenen, Kaboul, Yedlin, and M'Vila, and chopped our agents fees in the process - i.e. Lee Congerton - is working his notice ! I don't see any answer. Congerton won't stand for Allardyce, Allardyce won't stand for Congerton. Head banger.
Fair enough, but neither is a great choice to have to make. Ideally, we have to make Lee see that good signings are pretty worthless without somebody who can blend them into a unit. But equally, we have to get Sam to see he wouldn't have those players to work with without somebody good to recruit them. A diplomatic solution between the two would be best - but I just can't see it happening.
I like the idea of a DOF , but he really hasn't set the world alight has he? I think its more down to the fact Short bottled it really, and we half arsed it with Bridcutt , lens, Ola etc etc etc i'd wager not his choices
Without Lens, Coates, Kaboul, Yedlin. and M'Vila, Allardyce would hardly have set the world alight on Saturday either. It cuts both ways, and that was my original point. Bridcutt was purely Poyet's choice.
AJ and SF both are looking good lately, but both are problematic, the others are as good as gone imo. I also think SF will be back in Scotland next year probably on less money but an easier life which will suit him down to the ground. Sadly for him AJ could be finished, if not, then two years on reduced wages seems fair.
Not a big fan of aj or fletch but both have been better lately, if they can carry that form on for the next 2 or 3 months helping to push us towards safety then we should consider offering a new contract with a bit of a wage drop perhaps. As for the rest if we can get rid in january then we should.
As with everyone else AJ on reduced wage/2yr deal - unless he seals his own fate in Jan. SF on reduced wage/2yr deal - unless he ****s off to Scotland. Tara to the rest, thanks for the memories...
They're salable assets if we reduce the wages we can look to move them on stright way like we did with Connor. Instead of getting next to now for him, we nearly recouped our fee. If they will take a wage cut I've no problem with tuning nothing into money.
I may well be wrong but I'm sure I read somewhere that if you offer less dosh it contravenes PFA rules?
A few have suggested offering lower wages to those that are out of contract in the near future, and I've got a nagging thought I seem to remember that many moons ago Stan Cummings (it might not have been him) was offered a new contract on reduced terms, which mean't, legally, that he was allowed a free transfer . . . . what a cock-up that was Things may well have changed now, but offering such terms might mean that we're inadvertently saying '**** off son . . . . you can go where you want' I don't know, but that's the way that it used to be, if my memory serves me right I might be talking bollocks again, but . . . . just a thought p.s. I posted this, then read what Billy said . . . . sort of similar
Spot on - I just wrote a full argument with your point then re-read your point and realised that I was actually completely agreeing with you!! If we offer them contracts in January (AJ's on the proviso that he's found not guilty) then, come end of season, we can sell them if that's the way the wind blows instead of losing every penny we spent on them!
