I think he will be a superb manager, as he was a RB and as he is a pundit.

He's a very savvy, thorough lad, this is a dream scenario for United having a club legend cut his teeth at a massive club.

Very brave move by Valencia, as a sidenote.

Never expected this at all... wondered if he was going to be considered for United somewhere down the line, but it seems maybe not.

He's a brilliant pundit, I'm gonna miss him on Sky, but Carragher, as much as it pains me to say it, is also very, very good.

Good luck to Gaz, let's hope he entices many English players out there to play abroad.

I'm surprised by this, I thought he was destined for a long and lucrative career on sports tv. I thought he'd got his coaching qualifications but I figured his success on Sky would have changed that ambition.

I never liked him as a player but I like him now and so I wish him all the best. He certainly won't be short of intelligent ideas and strategic knowledge but how well will he motivate through the good times and bad. No reason to assume he's incapable of doing so like, just pondering. It'll be interesting to observe his career.

    Good luck to the lad.

A great, great player. Understated, just got on with it. Like his academy mates.

Irrespective of the silverware, Fergie has a lot to be proud of.

Certainly is a bit of a thunderbolt of an appointment for club and coach. Doubtless he will have come highly recommended but taking on a foreign club is a huge step and I hope he succeeds. Makes me wonder about the Prem league scenario setup that no-one has been in for him, unless it was NUFC and he was off like a rocket!

With more information to work on this is appearing to be a really cosy fit. Phil has been assistant manager there since July, the Singaporean owner bought 13% of Salford City off Gary and the Valencia appointment is until end of season. Looks to be a deal some time in the making so good luck to all of them.

Fergie man. Pure genius and his legacy lives on through his crop.

His only issue is going to be the language/culture difference. He is very tactically aware and Phil seems to be a great coach but can he get is ideas and philosophy across to the players? I guess time will tell. Defo a future England manager.

No shock at all to this when you consider Peter Lim and G.Nev are business partners on a couple of other ventures (Salford City, Hotel Football and so on).

    Good luck to him.

Being a good pundit is one thing, managing is all together different but Gary has worked with some of the best and played with some of the best to give him every chance........but does not guarantee anything!
