But they've nominated Fury... Only people on here seem to be making a big deal out of that Casino incident.
Small world BT. My cousin was a classmate of Bernie Cawthorne at Southcoates Lane and a playmate living at the bottom of Watt St, close to Bernie in Kelvin St. My cousin ended up in the Royal Navy via Hull Grammar School and was seconded to the Australian Navy before meeting a Sydney lass and settling in Sydney in the mid-50's. Shortly after the rest of his family migrated to Sydney from Hull. He told me about his connection with Bernie when I came to Sydney in the mid-60's. Unfortunately he was a heavy smoker and died of lung cancer aged 44 in the mid-70's. Was the old Riley High School were you trained at the Boulevard? (there was an older site for RHS). The Boulevard site operated from 1945- 1957 before moving to Parkfield Drive. I was at the Boulevard site from 1949-1956.
We met up at Micks house, yes he is still married to Margaret and Dorothy came round as she lives now quite close by.
All of them are world champions with the exception of Sinfield (who's had one of the most successful careers in the history of his sport) and Bronze (who I don't actually think should be in there). Take your head out of his arse for a second and you'll see you need to do more than score a few goals to be on that list. Maybe next year he could be a candidate if he continues his form and performs well at the Euros but he doesn't deserve to be up there just yet.
Yeah I think Saints and Wigan have both won it in the past. No one who follows RL expects it to any nominations so its always nice when it happens.
For what reason does he deserve to be on that list over the current nominations? With the exception of Bronze obviously.
Helped get the football ladies to the semi of the World Cup, scored a few memorable goals at important times. A funny choice though as you would think Steph Houghton was the more familiar and recognisable face as the captain
Well said Mr Hat, a leopard doesn't change his spots overnight. Was saying to my mate that Vardy is one of those that make me despair about football, a great player but an utter contemptible twat of a person
The majority might well be world champions, but when you actually boil down the achievements are they really as impressive as Vardy's? He's done a bit more than "score a few goals". Take your head out of your arse for a second, ignore the fact he's a Leicester player (despite it making the achievement even more impressive). He's gone from making medical splints to breaking a long-standing record in his sport, which happens to be the national sport and the most played sport worldwide. He's not beaten Joe Bloggs from around the corner in a gym. He's beaten multi millionaires, players worth millions upon millions, clubs worth billions and he made that leap in 5 years. Doing it with Leicester City. On peanuts. Costing peanuts. It's the ultimate rags to riches story. If he played for Hull then you'd be fighting his corner as much as I am.
I think the two main problems with that are: 1 He's done it for his club, whereas he's only just taking his first baby steps as an England player. To get SPOTY recognition a player normally has to excel for his country in a major tournament (Giggs was a notable exception to this). 2 He's simply not won the hearts of the nation. It's not just HCAFC fans who don't think much of him as a person - he's simply not someone you'd like to have a pint with. (Admittedly this applies to a few on the shortlist.) Basically SPOTY is always a tough one for team sport players to win (just look at Root's bizarre omission). Individual sports offer more focused glory.
Would we ****ers like, we've had our share of twats like Marlon King through the years and apart from the odd idiot exception like yourself we see them for what they are, arsecunts like your mate Vardy
Totally agree with your last point and that is basically my argument against the award. As for not winning the hearts of the nation? Have you been locked up in a dark room for the past few months?
This post sums you up, go and bore your mates on Foxeschatter or is that why you're here now, oops sorry
He's got slightly grudging respect. But compared to the Gazzamania of 1990 or Flintoff in 2005? Now THAT'S winning the hearts of the nation.
