The Tigers have completed the signing of Adam Curry from South Shields FC.

The 18-year-old centre-back has penned an 18-month deal with the Club after impressing whilst on trial at the Academy and will become part of the Tigers’ Under-21 Development Squad.

Curry, who featured for the Under-21s in last week’s 2-2 draw with Birmingham City, has made 12 appearances for South Shields in the Ebac Northern League Division Two this season.

Speaking after Curry put pen-to-paper on his first-ever professional contract in front of first team boss Steve Bruce at the Club’s Cottingham Training Ground, Academy Manager Tony Pennock said: “Adam has trained with us on a number of occasions and also played two games for us whilst on trial.

“From what we saw of him in training and in those two games, he’s done more than enough to earn the opportunity we’ve given him.

“To be a centre-half you need to be of a decent size and stature, which Adam obviously is, but he’s impressed us with all aspects of his game and has acquitted himself really well.

“He’s shown what he’s capable of and is the type of player that we like to have here at the Academy, so we’re delighted that he’s committed himself to us for the next 18 months.”

Hopefully he's capable of playing the tikka taka style.

Sounds a good addition, good luck to him. He has an apt name coming from South Shields, Ocean Road there has the most Indian restaurant I have ever witnessed in one road.

Bruce loves centre backs. Now just love other positions like left backs, strikers...

And while he is looking for left backs needs to see if he can find another Vardy among those non league players.

One for the future maybe. Pennock needed someone at centre half to cover those currently out on loan. Apart from Harvey Rodgers, very little else to select from. Good luck to the lad.

Another position Bruce could have a bit more interest in is goalkeepers.

South Shields FC play at the same level as Hull United, Hall Road and Westella VIP. This is a hell of a step up.

Neither will play in the first team though will they?

Mark Oxley was a good prospect.

I personally think one of them will get the chance in the next couple of years. I will return to this post and quote it to humiliate you when this occurs. Adieu.

Mark Oxley is a poor example. We signed him as a prospect when we were in League 1, but by the time he had earned his corn and was ready for first team consideration we were in the Premier League. He was a victim of City's success.

Luer is a better example of how these kids can progress. He'll probably get some game time tonight against the PL leaders.

We were in the PL when we signed him.

There are countless other examples anyway. Luer is a great one. He started the season getting game time and now he's rarely making squads. He's scored at whatever standard we've given him starts yet he gets no more games.
