Why would QPR or Foolham be a step up from Birmingham?
Do Birmingham supporters see us and the Ruperts as being bigger, better etc?

Look, I think Gary Rowlett would be an excellent appointment if we could get him, but you have not shown at all that he has stated that he would leave Birmingham. Basically, what you quoted is that his being linked is a sign of sucess for him at Birmingham. I'm sure he would like to talk to us, but that can only take place if Birmingham give him permission.

Secondly, I am not quoting any "rule". It is part of company law that a contract can forbid an employee from leaving & joining a competitor. Do I rthink this would be in his current contract? NO. Do I think Birmingham would try to enforce any stipulation rather than be paid compensation? NO

However, if Birmingham were to refuse us permision to speak to Rowlett, then by the rules of the Football Association we can't speak to him. That would not prevent him resigning if he wished, but it would make it very messy.

Whatever you feel, Birmingham City FC, would have a say in the matter!

Surely NW can do 6 months and then retire when we are in the play offs at least!

Sorry about that Hoops - surely(!) the board can see that Chris Powell is not up to the job? In a way I understand the thinking behind JFH/Smith/Karl Robinson as young, up & coming managers who have had some success at League 1 level & have something to prove at a higher level (obviously Robinson is currently in the Championship with MK) but I think Powell had his 15 minutes getting Charlton promoted from League 1 in 2012 - he never moved up to the next level while managing in the Championship. His tenure at Huddersfield was on a par with Ramsey's time with us. It's a really difficult call - do we go for a recognised Championship manager (to try persuade Neil to stay/go all out for Pearson or Rodgers) or do we go for something different, possibly for the future? I think we all know that Clement was Tony's dream manager but Derby had/have a bigger cheque book - who else is out there? Personally I'll be very disappointed if the board appoint Powell....

You said yourself Birmingham wouldn't stand in his way. That answers that really

I said in my 1st post he's done as close to a come and get me plea that an in work manager can do who hasn't actually yet been approached. If he said anything more he would be the managerial equivalent of Odemwinge in his land rover

After 2 positive performances I expect Les to act quick to protect his own selfish interests and not the club. If we get Powell then that statement really will be proved

Other than a pay rise, he would move from a tiny budget and a thread bare squad to by championship standards an enormous budget. Outside of Gray Birmingham haven’t got a player that would get in our 1st 11 and have the prospect of adding to that squad in the coming transfer windows with a lot more in wages and transfers than he would otherwise have.

Also it’s very likely his squad will be picked apart of anyone half decent without much funds to go back in to replacements. It would make sense to cash in with his stock high and he’s a good manager so would back himself to make up the 5 point difference over the next 26 games or so.[/QUOTE]
