Costa was playing football when Mourinho was just a twinkle in his Grandmother's milkman's eye. Jose should show more respect.
Can't remember who it was, obi wan mikel I think, but he was laughing his arse off when Costa threw his bib at moureen and then slung his hood over his head in utter disgust at moureen breathing the same air as the great Costa! But it wasn't just obi wan laughing I saw at least 2more on the bench cracking up, no respect all round tbh can u imagine old purple nose having players laughing if say Rooney acted the same? They'd be training with the kids and sacked by the end of the week *whistle*
Then you're a saint. I've seen plenty of people on the forum get angry at handball cases of a similar nature to that in the past. I'm not going to say that the penalty wasn't correct... But it is a grey area. Whether the ref believes the defender was spreading his arms deliberately to make himself a bigger target or not... I tend to err on caution and think refs should only act on clear cut calls. Obviously I'm happy this ref decided it was a penalty. Would have been slightly miffed on the other end though if given against us.
Suarez in a cup game against a lower league opposition. Ball struck his arm whilst it was outstretched away from body. He went on to score winning the game. Rival fans were all over the forum screaming foul. Most of our fans were claiming it wasn't deliberate so not a foul. These kind of grey area calls usually end up with one side saying one thing is definitely true and their detractors say the opposite... Until the tables turn.
Except as I recall Suarez's hand was in a completely natural position and the ball hit him from about half a yard No rep for you
BTW FYI the ref is the same one who didn't give us these, and he didn't give today's the linesman did please log in to view this image please log in to view this image 2 nailed on handball penalties he didn't give us, plus Matic allowed to control the ball with his hand in the buildup to their first goal Plus another nailed on penalty against Benteke today
No it wasn't. It was away from body. Hence my claim it's only handball when fans want it to be. This same forum claimed this was ball to hand and not an infraction. Suarez was about same distance from ball as the Swansea player today. Only difference is Suarez was wearing red. If it's a foul for one it is for the other. If it isn't for one it isn't for the other. Some refs give 'em some refs don't.
Because he had just shaped to take a shot, and the ball rebounded off the keeper at him How many strikers take shots with their arms by their side? #naturalposition
please log in to view this image Suarez and the GK as the ball hits the GK, meaning they were even closer together by the time it rebounded onto his arm

As I said further up the thread, I doubt that we;d have got that down the other end of the pitch, let alone at another ground. I think Ibe would have been sent off and made to swallow the matchball whole had he dared to claim it at OT.
Remember that commentary too? "That's the work of a cheat!". Yet Suarez initially turned away slowly and never even claimed the goal. I argued at the time that although it wasn't deliberate it wasn't a goal as his arms were raised, but the ref (and lino too?) thought different. I do remember one of James Lawton's last, alchy-fuelled articles in the Indy the next day claiming that Suarez had deliberately celebrated by kissing the wrist the ball had struck to wind up the Mansfield fans.
So would I but not at the referee, I'd have been annoyed about the defender being a fanny. Stand up and be brave, it's your job as a defender! How can you defend properly when you're not even looking?
Should have taken one for the team. Could have been a valuable point earnt for his team then as wouldn't have been a pen and didn't look like scoring other wise.
I recall it well since it was against my home town club and I got a **** load of grief (still do) for it And I said at the time that it's the referee's job to deal with it. I defended people calling Suarez a cheat because he clearly didn't mean to handle the ball but he did handle it and the goal shouldn't have stood. The referees failed to do their job.
Yep- and he'd be dead right too. As much as I enjoy seeing Mourinho struggle, the football fan in me hates to see players showing a lack of respect for their manager. If they think they know better than he then they'll do what they want on the pitch, rather than what they're told to do, and all the work the manager does is pointless. Mourinho might be playing it down in public, but I hope he has the plums to give him a kick up the arse in private. This might be the wrong thread for this, btw.
