Turned away with his arms in the air making a bigger object for the ball to get past. Even bigger clue there..... like.

That incident with Williams and Benny - not sure if it was a foul, but what the **** was the commentator yacking about saying that it was on the line so it wasn't a penalty? FFS.

Not strictly true. The handball must be deliberate to be deemed a foul therefore a pen. :bandit:

Very contentious pen. There was no way the defender was trying to block the ball with his hand or arm. It was more ball to arm/elbow. Lucky pen. But they all count.

Sorry to get into the semantics of 'deliberate', but you're the one not being strictly true. You don't have to stick your arm up and catch the ball or punch it away (say, like Cahill did twice at Anfield last season) for it to be considered an intentional act to stop the ball, depending on the position of your arms. Again, read what the rules say re 'natural' position of the arms. By your definition, if a wall simply closed their eyes and raised their arms in the air and the ball hit one of those hands, then it couldn't by handball.

Btw, am I the only one who remembers Everton getting one at the St End some seasons back against Watford when the ball hit Chris Powell in the face? Bet Tobes was livid.

This is just semantics. We all know that if you raise your arms up in the air and the ball hit them, it is a foul whether you close your eyes or not (that vision is soooo hilarious). That's deliberately trying to block the ball.

The defender here was not even trying to block the ball. The ball hit his elbow like we've seen so many times without anything given. We'll obviously take the decision and we are not the only team benefitting from a soft lucky penalty but to say that this was a cast iron stonewall penalty will just confirm to many that we are biased and that we view things through red tinted eyes.

To me it was not a pen but at the very least it was contentious and soft. Many refs would not have given it.

Funny thing is no Liverpool player claimed it, the crowd did

So our crowd got an assist while the #peoplesclub crowd scored an own goal

I have zero doubt it would have been given against us in the same position

#rep for anyone wants to try to prove me wrong and find an example from the last 5 seasons or so

About intent and responsibility. If your arms are in an unnatural position, as in making yourself a bigger object to get around, then it's considered 'deliberate' as you made the choice to do that with your arms. You have read the rules, have you? Did you understand them?

He was two yards inside the box. Were you watching on Tobes' dodgy internet link with your eyes closed?

Btw, if you wish to see a penalty given at Anfield for an offence that WAS committed two yards outside the box, see if you can find Lovren on Berrahino last season. Even on a dodgy internet link you'd be hard pressed to know what the **** was going on in Oliver's mind when he gave that one.

You are getting yourself mixed up with your own arguments. If you had read my comments instead of trying to throw insults then you would have read that I said that the act is a foul if the referee considered it as 'deliberate'. Something which after ranting and arguing needlessly against yourself you eventually agreed with. I didn't even argue what is or is not considered deliberate. If the referee thinks it is deliberate then he gives a pen. If not then he shouldn't. I don't think there is anything controversial in that statement.

Of course players know because they know the rules and they are close to the action <ok>
