Didn't Man Utd win the league playing 442 last season? It's not really about the formation it's about having the right players to fit the formation. You don't choose a formation and then try and fit square pegs in round holes you look at the players you have and then you decide what formation would be best suited to them.
its not cairneys lack of pace or tackling that bothers me, he just appears lazy, if the ball isnt with 2 feet of him, he doesnt exactly bust a gut to get there...still prefer him in there over harper, but to be fair id prefer harold bishop in there over harper... i wouldnt mind a 4-3-3 with evans, mckenna , koren.. and a front 3 along the lines of brady- fryatt- stewart when fit..to be fair, dont know who id play until he was..
No. Rooney was the one coming in deep which made it a 3 behind the striker with 2 deeper midfielders behind the 3.
I thought it was Chicarito up front with Rooney just behind, I don't recall Chicarito, Rooney and Berba all playing at the same time very often, so if anything a 4411.
TC deffo has the ability byut he now has to show it on a game by game basis. Maybe Mckenna can help him on the pitch get back to his PL form. Time will tell. For now TC will have to show what he do from the bench and in the Macclesfield game. But for sure TC could be the answer, YES.
To suggest that every team should play the same system is nonsense James. We looked ****e last year whenever we tried 4-3-3. Fryatt will need someone next to him who will win headers, hold the ball up etc. So a front 2 is probaby the best bet. Ther problem with Koren in the middle (somebody further up said they didn't see the problem) is that he is far too one dimensional. If he just had the ball to run with all the time he'd be fine, but in the middle you have to do things like tackle and pass sometimes as well. Koren isn't capable of doing all those different things. You only have to look at his bits of magic last season to see he is better on the wing, all of his best bits (goals and assists) came from out wide, often cutting inside but not startng from the middle.
...............Gulacsi Rosenior Hobbs Chester Dudgeon ......McKenna .....Evans ................Koren ....Simpson Fryatt Brady Evans brief is to sit back more and do the running for McKenna Koren to be the playmaker (since Bollard is too busy get drunk) Simpson and Brady to buzz between Koren and Fryatt, Rosenior and Dudgeon to bring the ball out. Everything played to feet!
It never is played to feet though. It's all well and good saying you can not play long balls at all but there's only one team in the world who can get away with that and it's Barcelona. I don't know the ins and outs of football tactics like the manager do but I know there are ways to force long balls, and it isn't that hard. Teams did it to us last season. This is why we signed Adebola. Not just to sit on the bench and come on at the end for a bit of a kickabout, he is actually here to play, and if anyone saw how easily he was swatting away the Ferriby defender the other night (who was about 6'5" and pretty wide too) they'll know how much of a beast Dele really is. I think we'll need to use him.
Cairney seems lazy or doesn't have enough energy to be really creative (especially for 90 minutes) City should have taken the offers last season or was it season before.
The other players in the team speak highly of tom, like I remember one of the interviews on tigers player asking who's the most skilful in the team and them replying "some of the things TC does in training are incredible" or something along those lines. Also in a recent player cam vid they described in length a goal which he scored in training, which involved him.. tracking back, winning the ball, taking on a few players and smashing it in with his *right* peg. They also were taking the mick out of how many times chester was megged by him in training. Now yes I know training is completely different, and I am guilty of attacking him when he couldnt handle the pace of the championship but hopefully these are good signs.
If we're looking for more of an adventurous formation, I wouldn't mind trying: Gulasci Rosenior Hobbs Dudgeon Evans McKenna Stewart Koren Brady Fryatt Simpson I realise I've dropped Chester there but with 2 defensive midfielders I would see no need for 4 defenders, plus we only really have 2 centre halves who I have confidence in (Hobbs, Chester) with only McShane and youths ie Bradley for cover. Anyway, this formation could be the perfect balance, cutting our team in half so that we always have 5 players defending (plus the keeper) and 5 players attacking.
No his attitude is wrong. Too complacent and lazy. Needs to go on loan to league 1 or 2 for a reality check.
I think that back 4 is to young and inexperinced I think Dawson needs to start at least till Christmas.
Im not being funny Mike, but where do you get the view that Toms attitude is wrong ? he is far too young too be judged by a few nights out with the boys.As i said,hw do know,he hasn't taken advice on board ? We might just see the lad play the way we think he is capable of !
Why would you do that? Evans doesn't have a lot of ability on the ball and can tackle. Koren has ability on the ball and can't tackle. To suggest playing a winger centre mid whilst playing a centre mid out wide is silly. Cairney for me needs to be playing alongside an older head to help him out throughout the game. I think that's what he had with Boateng in the prem. Someone who had been around for a decade playing at a high level. Evans, Harper and Koren aren't the types of players to do that which is why I think he struggled.
As someone recently commented about Cairney there's a difference between having no pace and being slow !
Lack of pace isn't a problem so long as he makes up for it in other areas and maybe he needs to prove he can do that, hard to write off a 21 year old and its the same with Cullen and Cooper, they can all come good if they apply themselves, thats why we dont need oafs like Bullard in the building.
Tbh, I don't think that Cooper or Cullen will make it as far in football as Cairney. Yes all 3 are young so will obviously improve and develop but imo Cairney is a cut above the other two. If he gets a regular run of games then I think Cairney could easily establish himself in the first 11. He obviously has the talent, he just needs to get that match sharpness which he isn't going to get from sitting on the bench or playing for the reserve team.
