I don't mean giving it to them, I mean using them to find individual causes. It even says on the site that they help give exposure to small causes. They can help to find the sort of cause we want to give to. How else do you propose we find that old woman?

I don't have the answers mate, but i'm not a big fan of charities in general as the bulk of the money tends to get swallowed up with overheads. I just think it should go to an individual or two or three, depending on how much money we raise.

I'm all in agreement with the original op.

    Nice one Sid <ok>

I'll make a couple of calls early next week and see if we can get some leads to chase for a worthy recipient.

A quick word on how this works. When the money's in, it gets paid into an account I control (my having set the thing up). Everyone can see what has been collected, so we all know what's due and I want the dosh out of my hands asap, for obvious reasons. If we'll be handing out cash I will get it up to the NE tooty-suity. If we we need cheques that's easier for me, but the recipients might not be as keen. Either way, we need to have a plan as to what to do with the money in advance of Xmas as we'll all be busy with the holiday period and the thirty days of the account will end on 27 or 28 December. Incidentally, we don't get Gift Aid off the taxman as we're not a registered charity. We've already got £90 in, so we will hopefully have a nice problem working out how best to use it <ok>

    Wtf is a cheque?

I have an idea. Let me see if it works.

My best mate was for many years the news reader/editor for SUN fm.

Now a paramedic in sunderland. He knows a lot. Worth a try?

Much appreciated Sid, if cash is necessary maybe you can wire it to one of the lads on here who lives up there and they can sort it all out.

Just one question, can it be drawn before the 27th as that's obviously after Xmas?

If somebody emails this [email protected] and tell them what we want the money to be used for, they should be able to find a list of causes, whether they're individual cases or community incentives.

    Or ring

    T: 0191 565 1566

    Or drop in.

    8 Frederick Street

    Sunderland

    SR1 1NA

Otherwise I'm not sure how we can reach out to the individual cases the consensus wants to go with.

I just spoke to the SA in Sunderland and they told me a place called 'Brothers In Arms' is specifically set up to help ex/injured soldiers and may be able to help.

It's sort of like help for heroes but more local to Suderland.

I'll have a look for their contact details and get in touch tomorrow <ok>
