Looking at the performance of the teams in the prem it's my strongly held opinion that the manager is a massive part of whether a team is successful or not. Picking the cream got to say I think we have the best in QSF begrudgingly I'll say EH is good for Muff and fat Sam does a job..... These guys all get more from a team than the sum of it's parts. At the other end of the scale McLaren really is a fool of a manager and I don't understand why he still manages at this level and VanGaal really should do better with the resources he has. Summing up best and worst.. best QSF worst McLaren....

Interesting view aberdeen that I don't disagree with, but some of the managers are not managers anymore, rather they are coaches working with the players they are given. QSF is very successful doing it, but every now and then you read or hear about a committee that have bought a load of very sub-standard players and wonder why they fail. Last night Shearer was having a rant about Newcastle, suggesting that although McLaren had no plan for the way the team played, the actual players were rubbish. While I think Mclaren is over rated I am not sure that QSF could do a lot with players who make basic errors so often.

Had I ever doubted the truth that the Manager is the most important person then 1987 would have taught me otherwise - watching that moron dismantle GT's great achievement

Has Van Gaal always been a defensive minded coach - his record is very good but tactics very unlike Man U like.

McLaren is a good coach but maybe a poor man manager?

I mean does ranting and raving at the modern day player work (you might as well appoint Warnock or Holloway!)?

Mourinho does I know but until this season his record earns respect.

Guys like QSF/Martinez and the Spurs manager seem very calm and assured whilst quite clearly managers like Ranieri and Klopp havea jolly personality which helps them engage with their squads (so far)

Yes... what a great mistake made.....

Synergy 1+1= 11 Psychological concept developed by Maslow. The manager/coach can make it happen or leave players diminished or greatly enhanced. Deeney a great example in the current squad. He is playing out of his socks.

I think that this team is playing just to their regular capabilities without the synergy aspect at the moment. However that looks to be coming. QSF's job is to provide the platform for it to happen and it's getting there.
He has a settled team, he has admitted that his "star player" is not up to it yet and dropped him. And he brought on the fans favourite for more than a two minute cameo.
The nearest we have come to synergy was against West Ham. That can be tempered by their recent poor form but it begs the question: did our comprehensive demolition provide the catalyst for their recent implosion?

I'm ecstatic at the way we are going about our business. I see gradual improvement all round and I am confident that we will see that "synergy" propel us to even greater heights.

QF says that the team has yet to play as he would like it to, but that it is early days. If this is not just rhetoric, we could end up with a seriously good side.
